Radiographers filling the mammography screening gap, but where's the evidence?
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide. In 2018 almost 12% of all cancers diagnosed were female breast cancer1. Early detection and treatment can achieve survival probabilities of 90% or higher2. When the disease is non-invasive, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.3 This provides an opportunity for a treatment pathway that allows for the best chance of recovery. An inexpensive solution to detecting malignancies that are impalpable and measure less than 10 mm is Mammography4.
