Consequences of Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (FHA) in youth on menopausal transition in elder women

Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA) is a chronic endocrine disorder caused by disturbances in pulsatile GnRH secretion, which leads to inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and the development of secondary amenorrhea. FHA accounts for 25% to 35% of secondary amenorrhea, making it the most common cause of secondary amenorrhea in our population. It is estimated that up to 17 million women in the world may suffer from FHA. Up to 50% of women who regularly practice sports may suffer from menstrual disorders, while 30% of them will present symptoms of secondary amenorrhea.
