Dandelion

Don Freeman ’s 1964 book, Dandelion, may not be as well-known as his Corduroy series, but it certainly withstands the test of time. I read it as a child with my own mother and then enjoyed it with my children over 30 years later! The book on my shelf is slightly worse for wear due to age and handling, but its coloring has always been soothingly neutral. The golden hue of Dandelion’s fur (he’s a lion, if you didn't know) plays across different aspects of the charcoal grey sketches, and the story is as straightforward as the illustrations.
