Postoperative bleeding adversely affects total knee arthroplasty outcomes in hemophilia

Hemophilia is a group of bleeding disorders that lead to recurrent hemarthroses of the knee joints and impaired function. Blood breakdown products such as hemosiderin cause synovial hypertrophy, perivascular lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltration, and inhibition of proteoglycan synthesis and matrix dissolution of the joint cartilage [1 –3]. In addition, the ongoing process of joint damage often results in early joint degeneration.
