Nurse staffing and adverse events in residential aged care: Retrospective multi-site analysis
According to an extensive systematic review, the expectations of residents when living in Residential Aged Care Homes (RACHs) is that they are kept safe and treated with dignity (Havreng-Thery et al., 2020). In order to achieve this safe environment, RACHs must deliver a high quality of care whilst ensuring adequate staffing are in place 24 hours a day (Wells, Brooke,& Solly, 2019). The recent Australian Royal Commission into Aged Care (2019) outlined that the existing system is failing to deliver these fundamental needs to our most vulnerable population.
