Accelerated rehabilitation following thumb ulnar collateral ligament repair with suture tape augmentation: A case series of professional basketball players

Ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries comprise 86% of all athletic thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint injuries.1 Sprains and partial ruptures can be treated non-operatively in a thumb spica orthosis for 6 weeks followed by the range of motion exercises.2,3 For acute complete thumb MCP UCL rupture and Stener lesions (interposition of the adductor pollicis aponeurosis between the ruptured UCL and its normal attachment site on the proximal phalanx), operative treatment may be necessary for restoring stability and pinch strength.
