Multicentric evaluation of a specific intrathecal anti-Treponema pallidum IgG index as a diagnostic biomarker of neurosyphilis: results from a retro-prospective case-control study
Conclusions Measurement of an intrathecal synthesis index of specific anti-T. pallidum IgG in patients with CSF inflammatory signs appears to be a valuable diagnostic test. However, in otic or ocular syphilis, presenting few CSF abnormalities, AI is not sufficient alone to confirm NS diagnosis. Modelling the impact of vaccination and sexual behaviour adaptations on mpox cases in the USA during the 2022 outbreak
Conclusions We found that initial declines in cases were likely caused by behavioural adaptation, but vaccination averted more cases overall and was key to hastening outbreak conclusion. Overall, this indicates that outreach to encourage individuals to protect themselves from infection was vital in the early stages of the mpox outbreak, but that combination with a robust vaccination programme hastened outbreak conclusion. Point-of-care testing for sexually transmitted infections and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis among pregnant women in South Africa, 2021-2022: randomised controlled trial
Conclusions POC STI testing was not associated with PrEP initiation or persistence relative to syndromic management. However, improving STI diagnosis by supplementing syndromic management with POC STI testing could improve PrEP initiation among PPW. Sexual network characteristics and partnership types among men who have sex with men diagnosed with syphilis, gonorrhoea and/or chlamydia in Lima, Peru
Conclusions Sexual networks and partnership types of Peruvian MSM are associated with differential risks for STIs. Participants diagnosed with syphilis tended to meet single-encounter casual partners at SOPV, while MSM with NG/CT were younger and often contacted casual partners online. Coinfection had higher frequency of transactional sex. These findings suggest the potential importance of public health interventions through combined syphilis/HIV screening at SOPV, syphilis screening at routine clinic appointments for MSM living with HIV and directed advertisements and/or access to NG/CT testing through online platforms. Acceptability of digital vending machines to access STI and HIV tests in two UK cities
Conclusions This study demonstrates that vending machines are an acceptable and effective means of accessing infrequent or never testers in the general population and can act as a horizontal intervention to tackle HIV and STIs. Research is needed to understand optimal machine locations to assure privacy and safety along with the long-term impact on sexual health services. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

Influences affecting decision-making regarding use of pre-exposure prophylaxis among black men who have sex with men in the USA: a systematic review and meta-synthesis
Conclusion A more targeted approach focused on advocacy and ambassadorship outside of clinical settings may be more influential in positive decision-making regarding use of PrEP in BMSM populations than relying on traditional outreach methods via institutions and their representatives where stigma, mistrust and structural inequalities perpetuate. Painful proctitis associated with anorectal mpox, syphilis, HSV, LGV, gonorrhoea and Mycoplasma genitalium in a person living with virologically suppressed HIV and vaccinated against mpox
A gay man with well-controlled HIV and vaccinated against mpox presented with severe proctitis. Testing revealed anorectal mpox, herpes simplex virus, lymphogranuloma venereum, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Mycoplasma genitalium. Serology was indicative of infectious syphilis. This case highlights the need to consider a wide range of concurrent sexually transmitted infections in patients with proctitis, including those vaccinated against mpox. Single case of lymphogranuloma venereum on the tongue
We report a case of LGV affecting the dorsum of the tongue, which presented as a very painful ulcer. The response to doxycycline (100 mg two times per day for 21 days) was satisfactory. This case may represent a paradigm shift in the differential diagnosis of lingual ulcers. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

Using crowdsourcing at an academic conference to develop STI testing messaging for public dissemination
Conclusions Conducting crowdsourcing activities at future conferences may be an innovative, feasible way to develop and disseminate engaging and important STI and other health messaging to the public in a short period of time. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

A holistic biopsychosocial management approach for cis-gender males with chronic pelvic pain syndrome attending sexual health services: a retrospective case review
Conclusions The biopsychosocial approach significantly reduced the NIH-CPSI score in those who re-attended, with 68% of patients having a significant clinical improvement. The first follow-up consultation at 6 weeks is now undertaken by telephone for many patients, if clinically appropriate. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

How to effectively manage chronic pelvic pain syndrome in cis-gender men presenting to sexual health services using a holistic biopsychosocial approach
Background Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) in men is an important, but uncommon, multifactorial condition managed in specialist sexual health services (SSHS) which can have a significant impact on a patients’ quality of life.1–3 CPPS is part of the chronic prostatitis/CPPS symptom complex with a prevalence of 8.2% (range 2.2%–9.7%).2, CPPS is defined as pelvic pain, often associated with urinary symptoms and/or sexual dysfunction, lasting for at least 3 of the previous 6 months and is a diagnosis of exclusion.1 2 Due to the nature of CPPS pain, including dysuria, penile tip, perineal, testicular and e...

Mpox after vaccination: a case series
In 2022, in response to the global mpox outbreak, Portugal introduced the Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic vaccine for at-risk groups; two intradermal doses were preferred to maximise vaccine availability. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical characteristics of vaccinated and unvaccinated patients diagnosed with mpox at a sexual health clinic in Lisbon (June to September 2023). Among 24 individuals, six had received full vaccination (table 1); most had no relevant medical history, whereas one had well-controlled HIV infection. In four (67%) patients, mpox occurred >6 months after vaccination. Limited data fr...
