Cardiovascular Disease in Iran in the Last 40 Years: Prevalence, Mortality, Morbidity, Challenges and Strategies for Cardiovascular Prevention.
Abstract Four decades ago, Iran encountered rapid sociodemographic and economic transitions. This review was carried out to investigate the trend of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevalence, mortality and morbidity, relevant challenges and suggestions for prevention of CVD. In Iran, the most prevalent causes of death have transited from infectious and diarrheal diseases in 1960 to CVD few decades ago. CVD was the first leading cause of mortality and a million disability adjusted life years (DALYs) led to 46% of all deaths and 20%-23% of the burden of disease in Iran. Ischemic heart disease and stroke are considered...

Different Strategies in Simultaneous Coronary and Carotid Artery Revascularization - A Single Center Experience.
CONCLUSION: Synchronous PCI, CEA and CABG may be safe and effective in the management of patients with concomitant CAS and complicated multi-vessel CAD. The current data suggested that more studies and randomized controlled trials may be necessary to define whether this strategy is suitable for these patients. PMID: 31029069 [PubMed - in process]

Estimation and Prediction of Avoidable Health Care Costs of Cardiovascular Diseases and Type 2 Diabetes Through Adequate Dairy Food Consumption: A Systematic Review and Micro Simulation Modeling Study.
CONCLUSION: Our analysis demonstrated that increasing dairy foods consumption to recommended levels would be associated with reductions in healthcare costs. Further randomized trial studies are required to investigate the effect of dairy foods intake on cost of CVD and T2DM in the population. PMID: 29738265 [PubMed - in process]

Epidemiologic Study of Opium Use in Pars Cohort Study: A Study of 9000 Adults in a Rural Southern Area of Iran.
CONCLUSION: Opium use is common in non-married men who have a positive history of cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption in the rural population of southern Iran. It is associated with increased risk of heart disease and stroke and decreased risk of hypertension in males. Global interventional and preventive measures are required to control this complicated social problem. PMID: 28412823 [PubMed - in process]

The Most Prevalent Causes of Deaths, DALYs, and Geriatric Syndromes in Iranian Elderly People Between 1990 and 2010: findings from the Global Burden of Disease study 2010.
CONCLUSION: The aged population of Iran is growing steadily, and there is a need for health policy-makers to create appropriate programs to meet the health needs of elderly people. Although GBD 2010 results are useful in providing burden estimations at regional and national levels, each individual country should estimate its burden of diseases, injuries, and risk factors at a sub-national level to obtain further details regarding the health status of its people. As no comprehensive study regarding elderly people in Iran has previously been conducted, our study will be a major source for identifying the important causes of ...

Relative Adrenal Insufficiency amongst Hospitalized Mild to Moderate Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients.
CONCLUSION: This is the first study demonstrating the prevalence of relative adrenal insufficiency amongst acute ischemic stroke patients. Utilizing the LDST, relative adrenal insufficiency was found more sensitive in detecting relative adrenal insufficiency in patients with acute ischemic stroke as compared to SDST. Heart rate and cardiovascular events: a nested case-control in isfahan cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: An elevated heart rate was associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular events. It can be considered as a predictor of cardiovascular disease independently of other risk factors in Iranian adults. PMID: 25204481 [PubMed - in process]

Health Transition in Iran toward Chronic Diseases Based on Results of Global Burden of Disease 2010.
CONCLUSIONS: Time trend information presented in this paper can be used to evaluate problems and policies specific to medical conditions or risk factors. Despite recent improvements, implementing policies to reduce the number of deaths and years of life lost due to road traffic injury remains the highest priority for Iranian policymakers. Immediate action by Iranian researchers is required to match Iran's decreasing mortality rate due to liver and stomach cancers to a rate comparable to the global level. Prevention and treatment plans for mental disorders, such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, and particular...

Major adverse events, six months after endovascular revascularization for critical limb ischemia in diabetic patients.
CONCLUSION: Based on our findings, it seems that along with current usual therapeutic routines which focus on wound healing and limb salvage, more attention should be paid to simultaneous diagnostic assessments and treatment of cardiovascular disease in this group of patients during short-term follow- up.
