Reducing gait speed affects axial coordination of walking turns
Locomotion in everyday life is rarely performed during steady state walking; in fact, turning steps make up approximately 35 –45% of all steps during a typical day [1]. Turning is a complex task incorporating spatial awareness and maintenance of dynamic body stability, which in turn requires coordination of axial segments [2,3]. The dynamic features of axial coordination are not only important for safe and efficient tur ning [3] but also commonly affected by neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease [4,5] and stroke [6–8].

Reliability and minimum detectable change of the gait deviation index (gdi) in post-stroke patients
The Gait Deviation Index (GDI) is a summary measure that provides a global picture of gait kinematic data. Since the ability to walk is critical for post-stroke patients, the aim of this study was to determine the reliability and Minimum Detectable Change (MDC) of the GDI in this patient population. Twenty post-stroke patients (11 males, 9 females; mean age, 55.2 ±9.9years) participated in this study. Patients presented with either right- (n=14) or left-sided (n=6) hemiparesis. Kinematic gait data were collected in two sessions (test and retest) that were 2 to 7days apart.

Spatial and temporal gait characteristics of elderly individuals during backward and forward walking with shoes and barefoot
Backward walking (BW) is an inherent component of mobility and function in daily activities, such as opening a door, backing away from a sink or stepping back from a curb as a swiftly moving bus passes [1]. BW has some benefits beyond those provided by forward walking (FW) alone [2], as it imposes less biomechanical strain on the knees [3,4]. Accordingly, BW has been used as an intervention tool for a variety of orthopedic and neurological pathologies, such as stroke and knee joint impairments [2,5], as well as for healthy individuals [6,7].

Inter-session agreement and reliability of the Global Gait Asymmetry index in healthy adults
Gait symmetry is generally defined as the identical behaviour of the left and right limbs during gait [1]. Pronounced asymmetry levels have been associated with pathological conditions such as stroke [2], lower limb amputations [3], osteoarthritis [4] and arthroplasties [5], as well as anterior cruciate ligament injury [6]. Consequently, there has been a growing effort in restoring/increasing gait symmetry in several clinical conditions [7] back to those found in asymptomatic individuals.
