Concomitant Mitochondrial Diabetes and Myopathy Mistook for Complications of Immunosuppressants After Kidney Transplant
We report the case of a 48-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus, sensorineural hearing loss, and severe myopathy without neuropathy after deceased donor kidney transplant. ShehadamitochondrialDNApointmutation at position 3243 (A>G), and mitochondrial diseases such as maternally inherited diabetes deafness or mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodeswere suspected.Diabetes andother symptoms following kidney transplant can often be overlooked as complications of immunosuppressants taken after kidney transplant. However, in patients without a known cause of their symptoms, appropriate exam...

Discovery of a Rare Variant of the Arc of B ühler During Liver Procurement
We report a rare variant of the hepatic arterial supply observed during liver procurement from a 71-year-old female donor for whom an ischemic stroke caused brain death. Preoperative computed tomography showed a partially obliterated celiac trunk and an atypical arterial branch that coursed in a retropancreatic plane away from its origin at the superior mesenteric artery to anastomose with the common hepatic artery at the origin of the proper hepatic artery. The gastroduodenal artery and the dorsal pancreatic artery are the 2 conventional anastomotic arcades between the celiac trunk and the superior mesenteric artery. Howe...

Liver Transplant in Hemoglobin SC Disease and Autoimmune Hepatitis: A Case Report
We report a case of a 50-year-old man with sickle cell disease genotype SC (HbSC) and cirrhosis secondary to autoimmune hepatitis who underwent liver transplant. His postoperative course included upper extremity deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolus, stroke via a patent foramen ovale after a line removal, and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. Fortunately, he is alive with a functioning graft at 10 months after liver transplant. This case highlights the feasibility of liver transplant in sickle cell disease given the support of meticulous multidisciplinary care and the unique aspects of autoimmune hepatitis an...

Three-Year Experience of Kidney Transplantation at a Single Center in Uzbekistan
CONCLUSIONS: Delayed graft function developed when duration of warm ischemia was increased, which was influenced by the number of vessels in the donor kidney. This is an important prognostic factor for acute rejection development. The risk of vascular complications increases due to postoperative hemodialysis trough, with development of delayed graft function. Recipient deaths during the first year after kidney transplant were mainly from pulmonary embolism, infection, and sepsis as a result of immunosuppression, hypovolemic shock, and acute ischemic stroke.PMID:35384804 | DOI:10.6002/ect.MESOT2021.O10
