Executive Function Is Associated With Off-Line Motor Learning in People With Chronic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to demonstrate that better performance on an executive function test of attention and set-shifting predicts a higher magnitude of off-line motor learning in individuals with chronic stroke. This emphasizes the need to consider attention and set-shifting abilities of individuals following stroke as these abilities are associated with motor learning. Motor Skill Learning Is Associated With Diffusion Characteristics of White Matter in Individuals With Chronic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS:: Diffusion characteristics of posttraining ipsilesional PLIC were linked to the magnitude of change in skilled motor behavior. These results imply that the microstructural properties of regional white matter indexed by diffusion behavior may be an important factor to consider when determining potential response to rehabilitation in persons with stroke. Implicit and Explicit Motor Learning Interventions Have Similar Effects on Walking Speed in People After Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: Implicit motor learning was not superior to explicit motor learning to improve walking speed in people after stroke in the chronic phase of recovery. IMPACT: To our knowledge this is the first study to examine the effects of implicit compared to explicit motor learning on a functional task in people after stroke. Results indicate that physical therapists can use (tailored) implicit and explicit motor learning strategies to improve walking speed in people after stroke who are in the chronic phase of recovery. Practice Structure and Locomotor Learning After Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that variable practice utilizing alternating belt speed ratios does not influence the ability of those with chronic stroke to adapt and retain a novel locomotor pattern. Interdisciplinary Concepts for Design and Implementation of Mixed Reality Interactive Neurorehabilitation Systems for Stroke.
We present key interactive computing, motor learning and media arts concepts utilized by an interdisciplinary group to develop adaptive, mixed reality (MR) INR systems for upper extremity therapy of patients with stroke.
