Impact of aortic atheroma and distensibility on diastolic function and prognosis in patients with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Aortic atheroma grade was significantly and independently related to LV diastolic function, especially in women. This suggests that aortic atheroma is an index of arterial stiffness and a potential risk factor for HFpEF through ventricular-vascular interactions, especially in women.PMID:35092202 | DOI:10.31083/j.rcm2301010

Hyperuricemia and Cardiovascular Disease.
Authors: Palazzuoli A, Hashemi H, Jameson LC, McCullough PA Abstract Uric acid (UA), the metabolic mediator of gout and urate renal stones, is associated with increased cardiovascular risk burden. Hyperuricemia is a common metabolic disorder, and interaction among UA and cardiovascular diseases has been clearly described. Several illnesses, including hypertension, myocardial infarction, metabolic syndrome, and heart failure, are related to increases in UA levels. In this article, we discuss the pathophysiology of hyperuricemia and describe the biologic plausibility of this metabolite's participation in the pathogen...

Renal implications of pulmonary arterial capacitance in acute heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Authors: Toroghi HM, Lo KB, Ziccardi MR, Horn B, Kanjanahattakij N, Malik E, Penalver J, Rangaswami J, Gupta S, Amanullah A Abstract Worsening renal function in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is associated with poor outcomes. Pulmonary arterial capacitance is a novel right heart catheterization derived hemodynamic metric representing pulmonary arterial tree distensibility and right ventricle afterload. Given the strong association between heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and kidney function, the goal of this study is to investigate the correlation between Pulmonary arterial capac...

Impact of lipoprotein(a) on long-term outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with reduced low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
Authors: Liu Y, Zeng Z, Yu X, Li T, Yao Y, Chen R, Zheng J Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of lipoprotein(a) level on long-range prognosis after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) in patients with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goal attainment. In this retrospective study, 350 patients in Coronary artery disease (CAD) with LDL-C less than 1.8 mmol/L were enrolled in the Guangdong Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases from January 2011 to December 2013. Follow-up was 1 year after PCI. According to the median value of the study population based on Lp(a), the patients ...

Determinants of atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery
Rev Cardiovasc Med. 2021 Jun 30;22(2):329-341. doi: 10.31083/j.rcm2202040.ABSTRACTPost-operative Atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication post cardiac surgery. It can result in detrimental short- and long-term outcomes due to the increased risk of stroke, cardiac arrest and congestive heart failure in addition to prolonged intensive care and total hospital stay raising the overall healthcare cost. Accurately identifying predictors and biomarkers for POAF ensures that patients at greatest risk can be given the appropriate prophylactic measures; resources can be distributed to the groups who are most in need and w...
