Animal models of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.
CONCLUSIONS: While all of the spontaneous ICH models have some advantages, the disadvantages include the sporadic time of onset of ICH and variability in size and location of ICH. Since there are no known efficacious treatments for ICH, it is not known if findings in the animal models will find treatments that are effective in humans. Association between interleukin-6 (G174C and C572G) promoter gene polymorphisms and risk of ischemic stroke in North Indian population: a case-control study.
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that IL-6 (G174C) polymorphism is significantly associated with the risk of IS in North Indian population. However, IL-6 (C572G) polymorphism is found significantly associated with the risk of IS after adjusting the demographic and risk factors variables. Prospective studies with large sample size are required for independent validation. Our findings could be helpful in identifying individuals at increased risk for developing IS. Association between polyvascular atherosclerosis and estimated glomerular filtration rate in patients with ischaemic stroke: data analysis of the patients in the Chinese National Stroke Registry.
This study evaluated the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in ischemic stroke (IS) patients with polyvascular disease (PolyVD) and analysed the relationship between PolyVD and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in IS patients. METHODS: Data from 9152 consecutive IS patients from the China National Stroke Registry were analysed. PolyVD was defined as patients with IS and coronary artery disease (CAD) and/or peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Chronic kidney disease was defined as eGFR < 60 mL/minute/1.73 m(2).The prevalence of CKD in IS patients with PolyVD was calculated. Logistic regression w...

Quantitative assessment and correlation analysis of cerebral microbleed distribution and leukoaraiosis in stroke outpatients.
DISCUSSION: Cerebral microbleed incidence increased with age. Mixed CMB type displayed the highest incidence. The severity and number of CMBs at any location correlated with LA severity. These results suggested interactions between hypertension and CAA during LA progression. PMID: 25875577 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Protective effect of telmisartan on neurovascular unit and inflammasome in stroke-resistant spontaneously hypertensive rats.
Discussion: These results suggest that telmisartan comprehensively protected the NVU components by reducing inflammatory reactions relative to AD in hypertensive rats, which could also preclude the risk of AD under hypertension. PMID: 25591419 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A comparison of rt-PA thrombolysis guidelines between China and the USA: are changes needed?
CONCLUSIONS: Onset to IV time is critical for reducing mortality and improving favorable outcomes. We suggest Chinese acute ischemic stroke treatment guidelines be revised to include an increase in the age limit of 80 years, removing contraindications such as a history of previous sever heart, liver, and kidney dysfunction, and placing more emphasis on physician expertise.
