P151/175 Direct aspiration with EMBOVAC - first clinical experience and clot composition (results the "PERFECT study)
ConclusionThis is the first clinical evaluation of EMBOVAC. Direct aspiration with EMBOVAC as first line therapy resulted in high rates of reperfusion and favorable clinical outcomes. Clot composition analysis can aid in better understanding of the stroke etiology and means for effective clot removal.Disclosure of InterestAcandis (OJ, CL, JF); Microvention (GM, CC, JF); Stryker (GM, CC, JF); Medtronic (GM, CC, JF); Surge2surgery (BG); MIVI (CC); Phenox (CL, JF); Penumbra (CL, JF); GSK (AS); German Ministry of Science & Education and Economy & Innovation, EU, Hamburgische Investitions-/Förderbank, Philips, B...

O20 Thrombectomy for medium vessel occlusions: treatment effect of successful recanalization on long term functional outcome
ConclusionTICI 2b recanalization in MeVO increased probability of good outcome from 27% to 58%, TICI 3 recanalization did not further improve prognosis. P46 How much of the improvement in functional outcome after successful recanalization is explained by follow-up infarct volume reduction?
Conclusions57% of the improvement of functional outcome after successful recanalization is explained by follow-up infarct volume reduction. Results reflect established pathophysiological assumptions and confirm the value of infarct volume as imaging endpoint in clinical trials.ReferencesBoers AMM, Jansen IGH, Brown S, et al. P83 The relationship of functional outcome after mechanical thrombectomy and serum glucose is partially mediated by edema formation
ConclusionEdema formation explains 15% of the total adverse effects of high blood glucose levels. Major pathways might include other direct effects of high blood glucose, such as altered vessel wall and thrombus characteristics and higher thrombogenicity of the cerebral blood flow.ReferencesThorén, M., et al. O-002 developing an interventional stroke service: improving clinical outcomes and reducing cost and delivering great cost saving benefits to health economy
ConclusionMechanical Thrombectomy has shown benefit in improving clinical outcomes with significant cost saving benefit to our institution and the community care. If the cost saving benefits is extrapolated to the stroke population of the United Kingdom or any other western country with a similar healthcare structure, this will lead to major savings to the healthcare economy. For this to materialize, there needs to a larger government initiative to streamline stroke pathways and provide adequate funding to develop this service uniformly across the country.DisclosuresS.
