The United States is in the midst of a historic demographic shift in its population that will have multiple societal impacts including healthcare issues. In 2043 it is predicted that the majority of the US population will be persons of color ("racial and ethnic minorities"). This new majority will be 53.4% of the nation by 2050. Of the 49 million uninsured in the US in 2011, 55% were persons of color who were only 33% of the population.
