Is Resident Training Safe In Cardiac Surgery?
CONCLUSIONS: Resident training is safe in cardiac surgery without compromising the quality of patient care. PMID: 32165177 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Complications on Resource Utilization during 90-day CABG Bundle for Medicare Beneficiaries.
CONCLUSIONS: Medicare beneficiaries that experience adverse events during their index CABG hospitalization will significantly impact that hospital's financial risk. The challenge under the voluntary CABG bundled payment program will be to monitor and reduce adverse events and managing the services consumed by Medicare beneficiaries experiencing adverse events delivered at all the venues of care. Repair of Thoracic and Thoracoabdominal Mycotic Aneurysms and Infected Aortic Grafts Using Allograft.
CONCLUSIONS: Radical resection and in-situ reconstruction with CPA avoids placing prosthetic material in an infected field and provides good early and mid-term outcomes. However, early postoperative imaging is necessary given the risk of pseudoaneurysm formation. PMID: 29777669 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Aortic Valve Reoperation Following Stentless Bioprosthesis: Short- and Long-Term Outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: Aortic valve reoperation following stentless valve implantation can be performed with low operative mortality and favorable long-term survival. PMID: 29625103 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hybrid Coronary Revascularization Versus On-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: For selected patients, HCR is associated with a faster postoperative recovery as well as similar short-term and long-term outcomes when compared with standard on-pump CABG. PMID: 29571730 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Bilateral Internal Thoracic Artery Grafts in Hemodialysis: A Single-Center Propensity Score Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: CABG using BITA grafts showed no advantages in midterm outcome among hemodialysis patients; however, there were no adverse effects on perioperative morbidity or death. For hemodialysis patients with limited available conduits, BITA may be an important option for multivessel revascularization. PMID: 28964409 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Resection of Intraabdominal Tumors With Cavoatrial Extension Using Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest.
CONCLUSIONS: Intraabdominal malignancies with cavoatrial extension can be safely resected. Excellent local tumor control can be anticipated. Long-term surveillance is necessary to detect recurrence. PMID: 27173070 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hemiarch and Total Arch Surgery in Patients With Previous Repair of Acute Type I Aortic Dissection.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with previous acute type I aortic dissection repair, hemiarch and total arch operations have respectable morbidity and survival rates. Congestive heart failure predicts operative death, long-term mortality, and our adverse event endpoint. Cardiopulmonary bypass time predicts operative mortality, and female sex and circulatory arrest time predict long-term mortality. PMID: 26116478 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Moderate Versus Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest for Elective Aortic Transverse Hemiarch Reconstruction.
CONCLUSIONS: MHCA with antegrade cerebral perfusion yields excellent and equivalent outcomes to DHCA for elective aortic hemiarch reconstruction. MHCA significantly improves intraoperative times and, importantly, reduces transfusion requirements compared with DHCA with a retrograde cerebral perfusion strategy.
