ConclusionsThe TORVAD design, with markedly lower shear stress and pulsatile flow, caused significantly less blood trauma that the HeartMate II. LVADs with reduced blood trauma are likely to improve clinical outcomes and expand LVAD therapy into patients with less advanced heart failure.
