Shared genetic susceptibility of vascular-related biomarkers with ischemic and recurrent stroke
Conclusions: Our data identify a genetic contribution to inflammatory and hemostatic biomarkers in a stroke population. Additionally, our results suggest shared genetic contributions to circulating CRP levels measured poststroke and risk for incident and recurrent ischemic stroke. These data broaden our understanding of genetic contributors to biomarker variation and ischemic stroke risk, which should be useful in clinical risk evaluation.

Potential new uses of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants to treat and prevent stroke
Conclusion: There may be a role for NOACs in stroke prevention and treatment beyond atrial fibrillation. Randomized controlled trials are needed to compare NOACs to current stroke prevention and treatment strategies in certain subgroups of patients with cerebrovascular disease.

Meta-analysis of folic acid efficacy trials in stroke prevention: Insight into effect modifiers
Conclusions: Folic acid supplementation could reduce the stroke risk in regions without folic acid fortification, particularly in trials using a relatively low dosage of folic acid and with low vitamin B12 levels.

Early start of DOAC after ischemic stroke: Risk of intracranial hemorrhage and recurrent events
Conclusions: Even if DOACs are often started early after an index event, the risk of ICH appears to be low. Among all patients receiving anticoagulation, the rate of recurrent events was 6 times higher than the rate of ICH.

Vitamin B supplementation, homocysteine levels, and the risk of cerebrovascular disease: A meta-analysis

Long-term antithrombotic treatment in intracranial hemorrhage survivors with atrial fibrillation
Conclusions: In observational studies, anticoagulation with VKA is associated with a lower rate of IS than APA or no-ATM without increasing ICH recurrence significantly. A randomized controlled trial is needed to determine the net clinical benefit of anticoagulation in ICH survivors with AF.

Recurrence of ICH after resumption of anticoagulation with VK antagonists: CHIRONE Study
Conclusions: Our results show that patients with a history of ICH carry a significant risk of recurrent ICH when treated with VKA anticoagulation. The risk is also present, though to a lower degree, in patients with previous posttraumatic events. All patients with a history of ICH require a careful evaluation of their thromboembolic risk to estimate the net clinical benefit of (re)starting anticoagulation with VKAs.

Letter re: Early start of DOAC after ischemic stroke: Risk of intracranial hemorrhage and recurrent events
Seiffge et al.1 evaluated the effect of direct, non–vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (DOACs) or vitamin K antagonists on intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and recurrent ischemic events in patients with acute ischemic stroke or TIA and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). I have a concern about the study.

Relationship Between Bone Mass And Muscle Weakness In Chronic Neurological Diseases (P3.036)
Conclusions: This study demonstrates greater commitment tendency to bone density in regions with weakness, compared to those without it, this could be related to disuse. Assessment of Vitamin D Deficiency in Patients with Neurological Disorders (P03.271)
CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study may have been biased by the type of the study population (hospital-based) and the small size of the sample. However, the frequent association between Vitamin D deficiency and neurologic disorders indicates that this vitamin may have a fundamental role in physiologic and pathological processes of the Nervous System, particularly in patients over 65 years of age. Vitamin D and the risk of dementia and Alzheimer disease
Conclusion: Our results confirm that vitamin D deficiency is associated with a substantially increased risk of all-cause dementia and Alzheimer disease. This adds to the ongoing debate about the role of vitamin D in nonskeletal conditions.
