Historical Perspective of Cambodian Medicine with a focus on Neurology (P2.051)
Conclusions:The Keck School of Medicine of USC received a grant from World Federation of Neurology, which allowed faculty to travel to Cambodia and teach the clinical and diagnostic aspects of neurology over the course of two years. We expect a neurology residency to start in 2017 to help the patient population that suffers from stroke, seizure disorders and various other types of neurological disorders. Even though the past has had its rough patches, the future has untapped potential.Study Supported by: This study was supported by World Federation of Neurology.Disclosure: Dr. Singh has nothing to disclose. Feasibility of Google Glass for Remote Resident Supervision and Evaluation (P1.039)
Conclusions:This pilot feasibility study is a first step in applying mobile telemedicine using GG for remote supervision and evaluation of neurology residents. Early experiences suggest good technical feasibility and patient acceptance. Primary outcome analysis of inter-rater agreement between in-person and remote (GG) evaluation of the NIHSS and NEX assessments is pending.Study Supported by: This study receives support from an American Academy of Neurology Education Grant, as well as from an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Faculty Fellowship Award.Disclosure: Dr. Carrera has nothing to disclose. Spanish Version of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale: Awareness and Use in the United States. A Survey Study (P6.023)
Conclusion: Neurology and Emergency medicine training programs are generally not aware of the availability of the NIHSS Spanish version. There is a need to increase awareness and to promote the use of the Spanish version of the NIHSS and to address the validation of its use by interpreters given the large and expected increase in the population of Hispanics.Disclosure: Dr. Villalobos has nothing to disclose. Historical Perspective of Neurology in Iran (P6.333)
Conclusions: Our research on the history of Iranian Neurology indicates that although Iranians had a greater understanding of various neurological disorders in the past, currently their role in worldwide neurologic research and training is less prominent. There are approximately 950 practicing neurologists in Iran and the numbers of physicians with neurology sub-specialty training is gradually increasing. Hence, with raising number of neurology training programs and research centers, a brighter future can be expected for neurology in Iran.Disclosure: Dr. Mohammad Khanli has nothing to disclose. Timeliness of Neurology Consultations in the Emergency Department: A Quality Evaluation (P4.280)
CONCLUSIONS: Neurologic consultations called from the ED, excluding acute strokes, were completed in an average of 57 minutes. Reasons for prolonged consultations included waiting for results, staffing patients with two neurology services, and multiple simultaneous consult requests. Our department plans to re-evaluate ED consult times every three months to troubleshoot any timing issues that arise. Future studies could evaluate how length of neurology ED consults affects outcomes.Disclosure: Dr. Holden has nothing to disclose. Neurology residency program as factor associated with thrombolysis utilization in acute stroke
Despite strong evidence on the safety and efficacy of IV alteplase up to 4.5 hours after ischemic stroke (IS) symptom onset1 and increased use of thrombolysis over recent decades, this treatment remains underused and accessible to only a fraction of patients. The rate of thrombolysis in the United States is 3.4%–5.2% of all stroke cases.2 Several studies have identified barriers to thrombolysis delivery,3 but other as yet unmeasured factors may also underlie these barriers, thereby influencing rates of thrombolysis utilization and access.

Thrombolytic utilization for ischemic stroke in US hospitals with neurology residency program
Conclusions: Acute stroke care in NR hospitals is associated with an increased thrombolytic utilization. The disparities between the thrombolysis rate in NR and that in OT and NT hospitals are greater among elderly patients.

Thrombolytic Utilization in Ischemic Stroke Is Significantly Higher in US Hospitals with Neurology Residency Program (S02.006)
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke care at NR hospitals is associated with an increased thrombolytic utilization rate. The increased tPA utilization at NR between 2002-2006 may be related to the rapid increase in Primary Stroke Centers across the country.Disclosure: Dr. Moradiya has nothing to disclose.
