Headache in stroke according to National Acute Stroke Israeli Survey
ConclusionsIntracerebral hemorrhage, younger age, female gender, posterior circulation involvement, and headache history are predictors for headache occurrence in acute stroke. Headache incidence in ICH correlates with stroke severity as opposed to IS. Headache in TIA is not unusual. Lacunar strokes are generally not accompanied by headaches. Headache remains the main complaint in SVT and carotid dissection.

Is the search for right‐to‐left shunt still worthwhile?
ConclusionsIn addition to recently defined criteria, genetically determined inheritable traits and epidemiologic characteristics (male gender) should be taken into account when assessing PFO and related cerebrovascular risk profile. A newly defined threshold in TCCD MB count is suggested to discriminate shunts related to stroke and TIA from innocent ones.

APOE and AGT in the Finnish p.Arg133Cys CADASIL population
ConclusionsThe APOE, AGT and NOTCH3 polymorphism did not modify the onset of strokes or migraine in our CADASIL sample, which is one of the largest mutationally homogenous CADASIL populations published to date. International collaboration, pooled analyses and genomewide approaches are warranted to identify the genetic factors that modify the highly variable CADASIL phenotype.

Recognition of posterior circulation stroke
ConclusionsDespite being of typical age for multiple cardiovascular conditions the PC‐ICH patients less often have a previous history of AF or dyslipidemia than IS patients do. The vomiting PC‐ICH patient with hypertensive BP values often has headache and a red flag for hemorrhage is warfarin treatment.

Prevalence of migraine headache in an in‐patient stroke population
ConclusionsThe prevalence of migraine in this hospital‐based stroke cohort was comparable to the estimated prevalence of migraine usually described in population studies. In our study population, the prevalence of migraine with aura was higher than expected. The increased prevalence of PFO in patients with migraine headache corresponds well to previous population studies.

Burden and cost of neurological diseases: a European North–South comparison
ConclusionsHealth expenditure, YLDs, costs and prevalence of neurological conditions were generally not correlated across the eight countries. A clear North–South gradient was found for health expenditures, and partially for YLDs, costs and diseases' prevalence. We hypothesized that this is a consequence of the expansion of morbidity of neurological conditions connected to ageing, that health and welfare systems of selected countries were not prepared to face.

Diffusion‐weighted lesions in acute ischaemic stroke patients with migraine
ConclusionsMigraine was associated with small cortical infarctions. This association may be due to cortical spreading depression.

Neurological disorders in the Global Burden of Disease 2010 study
ConclusionsNeurological disorders are of great public health importance. This knowledge is useful in dimensioning and organizing healthcare systems and necessary when planning education of health personnel on all levels.
