Development and psychometric testing of the Self-Care of Stroke Inventory
CONCLUSIONS: The final 23-item SCSI presents good psychometric properties and can be used to explore the self-care of stroke in community settings.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThis study developed and validated the Self-Care of Stroke Inventory (SCSI).The SCSI contains the following 3 scales: the Self-care Maintenance of Stroke scale, the Self-care Monitoring of Stroke scale, and the Self-care Management of Stroke scaleThe 23-item SCSI demonstrated strong psychometric properties. The SCSI may be used to develop future programmes to promote self-care for stroke survivors and improve their rehabilitation outcomes.PMID:37078...

Supporting post-stroke access to services and resources for individuals with low income: understanding usual care practices in acute care and rehabilitation settings
CONCLUSION: To better support post-stroke access to social services and resource for low-income individuals, a multidisciplinary approach, with actions beginning earlier on and extending throughout the continuum of care, is recommended, in addition to system-level advocacy.PMID:37067052 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2199462

Combining specific task-oriented training with manual therapy to improve balance and mobility in patients after stroke: a mixed methods pilot randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Specific MT-TOT and TOT appeared effective and are feasible in stroke patients. A larger RCT is needed to validate the results.Trial Registration: German Clinical Trials Register, DRKS00023068. Registered on 21.09.2020, https://www.drks.de/drks_web/navigate.do?navigationId=trial.HTML&TRIAL_ID=DRKS00023068Implications for rehabilitationA specific goal- and task-oriented training involving timed mobility and dynamic balance activities based on the demands of daily life, of high intensity and progressed in difficulty according to predefined criteria is feasible in patients after stroke. In this mixed methods p...

Biopsychosocial factors associated with the state of disability after hemiparesis in the chronic phase of stroke: exploratory analysis based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health
CONCLUSION: The reduction in locomotor ability, dissatisfaction regarding activities and participation and the non-return to work were associated with disability in the chronic phase following a stroke. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe reduction in locomotion ability, dissatisfaction regarding activities and participation, and the non-return to work were associated with disability in the chronic phase following a stroke.Clinicians will be able to develop rehabilitation strategies focused on diminishing locomotor limitations, increasing satisfaction with activities and participation, and improving vocational planning for ...

Video parameters for action observation training in stroke rehabilitation: a scoping review
CONCLUSION: Most video parameters except for length and perspective of view remain underreported in AOT protocols. Future studies with better descriptions of video parameters are required for comprehensive AOT interventions and result generalisation.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONVideos shorter than 5 min may be preferred during action observation training (AOT) intervention in post-stroke.Egocentric view may be better for upper limb dexterity function and allocentric view for gross actions like walking.Choice of video disseminating device depends on its dimension as well as observer distance.Movement speed, video sound, a...

Do social determinants influence post-stroke aphasia outcomes? A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Research on SDOHs and aphasia outcomes is in its infancy. Given SDOHs are modifiable and operate over a lifetime, and aphasia is a chronic condition, there is a pressing need to understand the role of SDOHs on aphasia outcomes in the long term.Implications for rehabilitationResearch on the role of Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and aphasia outcomes is in its infancy. The role of SDoHs has been mainly investigated in relation to language outcomes.Little is known about the SDoHs on activity, participation, and quality of life outcomes.Rehabilitation professionals should consider the potential influence of i...
