Effect of patent foramen ovale closure for prevention on recurrent stroke or transient ischemic attack in selected patients with cryptogenic stroke
ConclusionsOur study showed that PFO closure may be an effective treatment strategy to prevent recurrent stroke or TIA for patients with CS if it is conducted in selective patients who have PFO shunt more than moderate grade.

Impaired endothelial function in patients with cryptogenic stroke and patent foramen ovale is not affected by closure
DiscussionEndothelial function did not change after closure of PFO. Although patients were lacking cardiovascular risk factors, a high proportion had impaired endothelial function. Whether ED can have predictive value, identifying PFO at higher risk for recurrent stroke warrants further investigations.

The Impact of Right Ventricular Stroke Work on B‐Type Natriuretic Peptide Levels in Patients With Mitral Stenosis Undergoing Percutaneous Mitral Valvuloplasty
ConclusionsElevated baseline BNP level in MS patients was independently associated with CI and RVSWI. Plasma BNP levels were reduced after successful PMV, which was associated with the reduction of the LA pressure.

Multidisciplinary assessment of PFO with substantial right ‐to‐left shunting and medium‐term follow‐up after PFO device closure: A single‐center experience
ConclusionsPFO closure can be performed safely and effectively in patients with cryptogenic stroke or TIA. In selected patients with substantial RLS, following appropriate multidisciplinary assessment, excellent results with low incidence of recurrent events may be achieved.

Long‐Term Results after Carotid Stent Implantation
ConclusionThe results of our study demonstrate very low long‐term cerebral event rates after CS supporting the long‐term safety of CS. Importantly, there was no significant difference in long‐term ipsilateral versus contralateral cerebral events lending support to the hypothesis of plaque stabilization.

Carotid Revascularization: A Systematic Review of the Evidence
ConclusionsCAS represents a safe and effective stroke prevention strategy in high surgical risk patients when compared with CEA. The inconsistent results from the RCTs and the improved outcomes in the prospective clinical trials are likely related to variability in operator experience, use of embolic protection devices, and patient selection strategies.

Effectiveness of a handmade “New Carotid Catheter” in transradial carotid angiography: A comparison with conventional multipurpose catheters
ConclusionTransradial carotid angiography can be performed using our newly developed carotid catheter. The carotid arteries of patients with widespread coronary artery disease can be visualized, while asymptomatic patients carrying a high risk of stroke can be treated, preventing potential stroke occurrence. In a larger‐scale comparative study, the favorable contributions of routine use of the new method and a decreased frequency of stroke may be demonstrated.

Influence of Sex on Outcome Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI): Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis
ConclusionIn treatment with TAVI, there is evidence for a significantly greater overall survival benefit in women over men.

A Meta‐Analysis of Sex‐Related Differences in Outcomes After Primary Percutaneous Intervention for ST‐Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction
ConclusionsAs compared to men, women undergoing pPCI have more bleedings and strokes, and a worse early, but not mid‐term mortality. These findings may allow a better risk stratification of pPCI patients.

Complications and Mortality in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement With Edwards SAPIEN & SAPIEN XT Valves: A Meta‐Analysis of World‐Wide Studies and Registries Comparing the Transapical and Transfemoral Accesses
ConclusionThis meta‐analysis demonstrates a decreased 30‐day and 1‐year mortality in TF TAVR as compared to TA TAVR. Post‐procedure acute kidney injury and the need for renal replacement therapy are also significantly lower in the TF group. These differences hold true even after utilizing the standardized Valve Academic Research Consortium criteria.

Balloon‐Expandable Transcatheter Aortic Valves Can Be Successfully and Safely Implanted Transfemorally Without Balloon Valvuloplasty
ConclusionsTAVI can be effectively and safely performed without a BAV and this results in reduced procedural and fluoroscopic times, although embolization to the brain is not reduced. There is a trend toward reduced stroke risk. (J Interven Cardiol 2016;29:319–324)

Comparison of Outcomes after Device Closure with Transseptal Puncture and Standard Technique in Patients with Patent Foramen Ovale and Ischemic Events
ConclusionCompared to the standard technique, PFO closure with the transseptal puncture technique showed higher incidence of residual shunt and ischemic events. Therefore, this technique might be considered in only highly selected patients as the last option.

Impact of Coronary Artery Disease Burden on 12‐Month Mortality of Patients After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
ConclusionsIncomplete coronary revascularization and a history of stroke or TIA may be independent predictors of all‐cause mortality in patients undergoing TAVI. However, further studies are recommended to confirm the results, especially in terms of the impact of CTO presence on long‐term mortality after TAVI.
