Predictive Variables of Cognitive Dysfunction in Patients with Lupus (P1.340)
Conclusions:Duration of disease and low educational level are predictors of CD in patients with SLE. Depression and anxiety did not influence cognitive performance. Although cardiovascular comorbidity is a risk factor for dementia in general population, those variables might play a minor role in SLE patients.Study Supported by:Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) (grant #2015/08833-7) supported this study.Disclosure: Dr. Alessi has nothing to disclose. Diffusion Weighted Imaging in a Case of Longitudinally Extensive Transverse Myelitis in Neuromyelitis Optica (P6.395)
Conclusions:Limited data exist on DWI and ADC patterns in demyelinating disease, particularly for NMO and LETM. Understanding these neuroimaging patterns in patients who cannot receive gadolinium is important in diagnosing NMO and providing prompt treatment.Disclosure: Dr. Gluck has nothing to disclose. Incidence of Ischemic Stroke in Young Adults, a 4 Year Retrospective Review from an Urban Tertiary Care Center in North Philadelphia (P3.232)
Conclusions: The incidence of Ischemic Stroke in this cohort is much higher than that reported in other observational studies. Despite an extensive work up, a cause was not found in the majority of patients. These data support the need for a more in depth investigation of the causes of stroke in the young in urban, underserved communities. Standard of care diagnostic tests fail to explain the unusually high incidence of Ischemic Stroke in this cohort.Disclosure: Dr. Pirastehfar has nothing to disclose. Dr. Katz has nothing to disclose. HSV-2 Encephalitis Presenting as Multifocal Ischemic Stroke (P4.375)
CONCLUSION A high index of suspicion needs to be maintained to diagnose infectious vasculitis. A history of immunosuppression and headache preceding cerebral infarction were important factors that ultimately led to the appropriate work up and diagnosis in this case. Lumbar puncture and prompt initiation of antiviral treatment is essential in stroke case of suspected CNS infection with HSV-2.Disclosure: Dr. Zhang has nothing to disclose. Is it ever lupus? A single centre retrospective review of the rheumatologic work-up in patients with clinically isolated syndrome (P6.113)
Conclusions: In our single centre review of patients with CIS who underwent rheumatologic testing, ANA was weakly/moderately positive in 64[percnt] and did not aid in predicting diagnosis of MS versus an autoimmune rheumatologic disease. More specific rheumatologic markers, including ds-DNA, ENA, low C3/C4 and antiphospholipid antibodies were rarely positive, and no CIS was attributed to a newly diagnosed rheumatologic disease.Disclosure: Dr. Budhram has nothing to disclose. Temporal Trends of Mortality in Acute Ischemic Stroke in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Propensity-Matched Analysis of Nationwide Inpatient Data (P2.295)
CONCLUSIONS: Mortality in patient with SLE and AIS has significantly decreased from 2000 to 2011. Additionally, there was no difference in mortality between patients with and without SLE after propensity matching, suggesting that SLE has a minimal independent effect beyond traditional risk factors.Disclosure: Dr. Patel has nothing to disclose. Thrombophilia in Young Patients with Cerebrovascular Disease. AISYF Study (S55.005)
Conclusion: Our study showed alterations in 17/125(14%) patients with arterial CVA, excluded PAI abnormalities. With the exception of antiphospholipid antibodies the value of testing TF as part of the evaluation of patients with arterial CVA, even in patients with a cryptogenic event,is still controversial and should not lead to anticoagulation of all these patients.Study Supported by Shire HGTDisclosure: Dr. Leon Cejas has nothing to disclose.
