Beating vs Arrested Heart Isolated Tricuspid Valve Surgery: Long-term Outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Isolated tricuspid valve surgery performed with a beating heart strategy is a safe option and resulted in a trend of increased long-term survival and freedom from reoperation when compared with the standard arrested heart technique. Patients undergoing beating heart valve repair had the best long-term outcome.PMID:33831392 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.03.070

Transcarotid vs Subclavian/Axillary Access for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement with SAPIEN 3.
CONCLUSIONS: TC TAVR is associated with similar mortality and significant reduction in stroke compared to the subclavian/axillary approach. If femoral access is precluded, TC may be a safe, or at times, preferred avenue of transcatheter valve delivery. PMID: 32712098 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Preoperative Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Slashes Risk Score in Advanced Structural Heart Disease.
CONCLUSIONS: ECMO can be used as a bridge to heart valve or septal defect surgery in severely decompensated patients. Through recovery of end-organ function, ECMO may allow surgical correction of structural heart disease in patients considered inoperable or convert a salvage situation to an elective operation. Low Incidence of Paravalvular Leakage With the Balloon-Expandable Sapien 3 Transcatheter Heart Valve.
CONCLUSIONS: The present study shows excellent clinical and hemodynamic outcomes of high-risk transapical valve replacement patients treated with the new S3 THV. The S3 THV shows a low incidence of postoperative aortic regurgitation, with 98% presenting with less than mild aortic regurgitation. PMID: 26117587 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Aortic Valve Replacement for Severe Aortic Valve Stenosis in the Nonagenarian Patient.
CONCLUSIONS: Aortic valve replacement for severe aortic valve stenosis can be done with less than predicted operative risk in nonagenarian patients. However, transfemoral SAPIEN transcatheter heart valve transcatheter AVR should be undertaken with caution because of increased risk of vascular injury. Aortic valve replacement should not be denied in select patients. PMID: 25200726 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Thromboembolism in a patient with a mechanical mitral valve during anticoagulation with dabigatran etexilate.
We report a 57-year-old man with a mechanical heart valve who experienced acute upper limb thromboembolism during dabigatran intake. Dabigatran might be inadequate for thromboprophylaxis after mechanical valve replacement. PMID: 24182477 [PubMed - in process]
