Quality of Life in Liver Transplant Patients with Neurologic Complications. (P4.031)
Conclusions: Our analysis shows that neurological complications worsen the quality of life of liver transplant patients. Voltage Gated Calcium Channels Antibody-Associated Autoimmune Encephalitis (P5.228)
ConclusionThis case demonstrates a correlation between a high titer of VGCC antibodies and autoimmune encephalitis. Our patient's initial improvement with steroids and plasma exchange in the face of a negative CT and PET suggests a primary autoimmune process rather than a paraneoplastic etiology, though we admit that it is premature to rule out remission and we will continue to follow herDisclosure: Dr. Alwaki has nothing to disclose. She was brought to the ER after being found unresponsive. Family members stated she had been experiencing difficulty speaking, and mild right facial weakness. She has been complaining of headaches for the past seven months and 15 pound weight loss. On admission, temperature was 98.4°F, BP 122/77, PR 78, and RR 18. Intracranial Venous Sinus Thrombosis: Report of Three Cases (P6.255)
CONCLUSIONS: Recently, the diagnosis of Intracranial Sinus Thrombosis has increased due to rising clinical awareness especially in patients with some risk factors. Initial anticoagulation with heparin is reasonable, regardless of the presence of intracranial hemorrhage. MRI and MRV have become in important diagnostic tools.Study Supported by: No oneDisclosure: Dr. Reyes Garay has nothing to disclose. Dr. Sueldo Feijoo has nothing to disclose. Brain Herniation Due To Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, Stroke Like Events (MELAS) With 3256 Mutation Responsive To Decompressive Craniotomy (P6.257)
CONCLUSIONS:In our MELAS case, decompessive craniotomy is life saving for brain herniation due to SLE. Headache refractory to narcotics and increased lactic acid level are early warning signs of acute SLE since MRI can be normal. Steriod might be indicated for acute treatment of cortical edema.Disclosure: Dr. Cui has nothing to disclose. Dr. Schwendimann has received research support from Lundbeck.

Taking Neurology to the Underserved - A Pilot Initiative in an Urban Homebound Program (P6.007)
CONCLUSIONS: Our pilot program highlights types of chronic neurologic illnesses afflicting the homebound population, treatment interventions utilized, and clinical challenges encountered. By considering the real-world intersection of disease and living environment, trainees gained perspective on the debilitating impact of neurological illness on homebound patients. This pilot program reveals the need and feasibility of neurological home based care as an important clinical, educational, and palliative paradigm.Disclosure: Dr. Ramdhani has nothing to disclose. Education Status and Ischemic Stroke in Young: A Potential Target towards Future Population Based Preventive Strategies. (P5.117)
Conclusion: Risk factors associated with IS in young patients are different among those with NCE as compared with those having CE. Larger studies need to be performed to expand on our knowledge of risk factors in NCE and CE young IS individuals which can help target population based preventive measures to decrease the rising incidence and burden of stroke in the young.Disclosure: Dr. Vaishnav has nothing to disclose. Intracerebral Hemorrhage Associated with Oral Phenylephrine Use (P5.138)
CONCLUSION: It is scientifically plausible that Phe may cause strokes given that it is consistent with the pharmacological properties and adverse event profiles of similar amphetamine-like sympathomimetics. As RCVS has been well-described in association with over the counter sympathomimetics, these lines of evidence support a likely, although not definitive, causal relationship between Phe and ICH.Disclosure: Dr. Tark has nothing to disclose. Direct and Indirect Cost Burden of Stroke Mimics Post Intravenous Tissue Plasminogen Activator (IV-tPA): A Single Center Study (P3.103)
CONCLUSIONS:This study reveals that stroke mimics can have significant cost burden on health care system; mainly from the cost of IV-tPA and higher level of care. An urgent MR with selected sequences and perfusion imaging in certain patient population can be helpful to exclude patients with stroke mimics, avoid extra cost, and prevent unnecessary distress to the patient and family.Disclosure: Dr. Goyal has nothing to disclose.
