ELABELA acts as a protective biomarker in patients with atrial fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Expression of ELA showed a protective role in AF patients. The ELA level was negatively correlated with BNP levels, which has been shown to predict a high risk of HF independently and consistently. Additionally, lower levels of ELA were associated with a high risk of AF and HF in patients with arrhythmia.KEYWORDS: ELABELA (ELA); matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9); tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1); atrial fibrillation (AF); brain natriuretic peptide (BNP).PMID:35070372 | PMC:PMC8743407 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-21-1728

Safety and durability of single-stage type I hybrid total aortic arch repair for extensive aortic arch disease: early- and long-term clinical outcomes from a single center and our 10-year of experience
CONCLUSIONS: Single-stage type I hybrid total aortic arch repair has achieved desirable outcomes in our center, which does not increase perioperative risk in the elderly patients, meanwhile, also acquire acceptable durability in the young patients. In conclusion, this surgery is a practical mini-invasive treatment for extensive aortic arch disease with strict and limited indications.PMID:34992803 | PMC:PMC8662513 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-20-3479

Neuroprotective effects of dynamic bubble trap use in patients undergoing pulmonary endarterectomy: a two-arm randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: DBT positively influences memory function after PEA. This effect is most likely caused by the reduction of gaseous microemboli.TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study is registered in the German Clinical Trials Register, ID: DRKS00021499.PMID:34795929 | PMC:PMC8575830 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-21-831
