Tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in tumor growth, invasion and metastasis. In TME, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family members, including HER1, HER2, HER3 and HER4, are involved in determining aggressive growth of breast cancer due to their ability to transduce the growth promoting functions of growth factors. This activity is potentiated by the over-expression of these receptor molecules in cancer cells. To reduce the activity of EGFR molecules, various inhibitors have been developed.
