Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5418: Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Deep-Learning Equalizer for Mitigating Linear and Nonlinear Distortions in Underwater Visible Light Communication Systems
angovan Underwater visible light communication (UVLC) has recently come to light as a viable wireless carrier for signal transmission in risky, uncharted, and delicate aquatic environments like seas. Despite the potential of UVLC as a green, clean, and safe alternative to conventional communication methods, it is challenged by significant signal attenuation and turbulent channel conditions compared to long-distance terrestrial communication. To address linear and nonlinear impairments in UVLC systems, this paper presents an adaptive fuzzy logic deep-learning equalizer (AFL-DLE) for 64 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation-Co...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5404: Prediction of Joint Angles Based on Human Lower Limb Surface Electromyography
i Qinghao Chu Wearable exoskeletons can help people with mobility impairments by improving their rehabilitation. As electromyography (EMG) signals occur before movement, they can be used as input signals for the exoskeletons to predict the body’s movement intention. In this paper, the OpenSim software is used to determine the muscle sites to be measured, i.e., rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, semitendinosus, biceps femoris, lateral gastrocnemius, and tibial anterior. The surface electromyography (sEMG) signals and inertial data are collected from the lower limbs while the human body is walking, going u...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5349: Load Balancing Using Artificial Intelligence for Cloud-Enabled Internet of Everything in Healthcare Domain
a A. Alkhaldi The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its subsequent evolution into the Internet of Everything (IoE) is a result of the rapid growth of information and communication technologies (ICT). However, implementing these technologies comes with certain obstacles, such as the limited availability of energy resources and processing power. Consequently, there is a need for energy-efficient and intelligent load-balancing models, particularly in healthcare, where real-time applications generate large volumes of data. This paper proposes a novel, energy-aware artificial intelligence (AI)-based load balanci...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5262: Obstacle Detection System for Navigation Assistance of Visually Impaired People Based on Deep Learning Techniques
Alsariera Visually impaired people seek social integration, yet their mobility is restricted. They need a personal navigation system that can provide privacy and increase their confidence for better life quality. In this paper, based on deep learning and neural architecture search (NAS), we propose an intelligent navigation assistance system for visually impaired people. The deep learning model has achieved significant success through well-designed architecture. Subsequently, NAS has proved to be a promising technique for automatically searching for the optimal architecture and reducing human efforts for architecture d...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5229: Open-Source Implementations of the Reactive Asset Administration Shell: A Survey
iedrich Volz The use of open-source software is crucial for the digitalization of manufacturing, including the implementation of Digital Twins as envisioned in Industry 4.0. This research paper provides a comprehensive comparison of free and open-source implementations of the reactive Asset Administration Shell (AAS) for creating Digital Twins. A structured search on GitHub and Google Scholar was conducted, leading to the selection of four implementations for detailed analysis. Objective evaluation criteria were defined, and a testing framework was created to test support for the most common AAS model elements and API ...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5172: A Path Planning Method with a Bidirectional Potential Field Probabilistic Step Size RRT for a Dual Manipulator
ijie Wang The search efficiency of a rapidly exploring random tree (RRT) can be improved by introducing a high-probability goal bias strategy. In the case of multiple complex obstacles, the high-probability goal bias strategy with a fixed step size will fall into a local optimum, which reduces search efficiency. Herein, a bidirectional potential field probabilistic step size rapidly exploring random tree (BPFPS-RRT) was proposed for the path planning of a dual manipulator by introducing a search strategy of a step size with a target angle and random value. The artificial potential field method was introduced, combining...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5038: Contactless Technologies, Sensors, and Systems for Cardiac and Respiratory Measurement during Sleep: A Systematic Review
epold Sleep is essential to physical and mental health. However, the traditional approach to sleep analysis—polysomnography (PSG)—is intrusive and expensive. Therefore, there is great interest in the development of non-contact, non-invasive, and non-intrusive sleep monitoring systems and technologies that can reliably and accurately measure cardiorespiratory parameters with minimal impact on the patient. This has led to the development of other relevant approaches, which are characterised, for example, by the fact that they allow greater freedom of movement and do not require direct contact ...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 4799: A Comparison of Multiple Odor Source Localization Algorithms
ozhou Gao There are two primary algorithms for autonomous multiple odor source localization (MOSL) in an environment with turbulent fluid flow: Independent Posteriors (IP) and Dempster–Shafer (DS) theory algorithms. Both of these algorithms use a form of occupancy grid mapping to map the probability that a given location is a source. They have potential applications to assist in locating emitting sources using mobile point sensors. However, the performance and limitations of these two algorithms is currently unknown, and a better understanding of their effectiveness under various conditions is required pr...
