Biosimilars approvals by thirteen regulatory authorities: A cross-national comparison
This study aims to present an overview of biosimilars approval by thirteen regulatory authorities (RA). The study is a cross-national comparison of regulatory decisions involving biosimilars in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Colombia, Europe, Hungary, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Peru and United States. We examined publicly available documents containing information regarding the approval of biosimilars and investigated the publication of public assessment reports for registration applications, guidelines for biosimilars licensing, and products approved. Data extraction was conducted by a network of researchers ...

Functional and histological effects of Anthurium schlechtendalii Kunth extracts on adenine-induced kidney damage of adult Wistar rats
Toxicon. 2023 Aug 29:107272. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107272. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAnthurium schlechtendalii Kunth is used by the Zoque group in southeastern Mexico for kidney and urinary diseases, but its safety and effectiveness are unproven, therefore a model of adenine-induced renal failure in rats was performed. The rats were fed with solid and aqueous plant extracts for 4 weeks to study its effects on kidney histological morphology. Kidneys were examined, and statistical analysis was performed. The adenine-containing diet caused renal failure, characterized by crystal deposits, cystic dilatation of tubule...

Hip arthroplasty practice across the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) over the last decade
CONCLUSIONS: There is 36-fold variation in the practice of hip replacements across the OECD and the number of hip replacements has increased by more than 20% over the past decade. The number of hip replacements performed appears to be correlated with health expenditure in each country and may indicate a need that can only be met by increasing health expenditure.PMID:37652085 | PMC:PMC10471436 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2022.0101

Microplastics and heavy metals in shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei from the SAMARE lagoon, Gulf of California: Is it a case of combined MPs-Zn pollution in gills?
This study implies that an essential part of the world fisheries is a potential route for MPs and HMs. The problem is exacerbated due to the consumption of whole shrimp tissues consumed by humans. Considering Mexican shrimp consumption, and MPs in this study, the estimated intake was 594 MPs/capita/year. Future research requires MP monitoring in coastal lagoons that support wildlife and important fisheries and assess their effects combined with HMs.PMID:37652226 | DOI:10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122479
