Continued challenges in pediatric anesthesia during COVID-19 in 2022: An international survey from the pediatric anesthesia COVID-19 collaborative
CONCLUSION: Our study found that COVID-19 has continued to impact pediatric anesthesiology. There are major discrepancies between what anesthesiologists believe are important for job satisfaction and faculty retention compared to implemented initiatives. Data from this survey provide insight for institutions and departments for addressing these challenges.PMID:37732382 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14762

Experience of Lifetime Health Maintenance Program: An Observational Study of a 30-Year Period of Outpatient Primary Care in a Tertiary Hospital
CONCLUSION: The LHMP emphasized the need to systematize regular primary care physicians in Korea. Policy changes are necessary to strengthen primary care, and the LHMP serves as an intermediate step in organizing regular primary care physicians in Korea.PMID:37582665 | DOI:10.4082/kjfm.23.0023

Antiplatelet agents for the treatment of adults with COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: In people with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 and moderate to severe disease, we found moderate-certainty evidence that antiplatelets probably result in little to no difference in 28-day mortality, clinical worsening or improvement, but probably result in a slight reduction in thrombotic events. They probably increase the occurrence of major bleeding events. Low-certainty evidence suggests that antiplatelets may result in a slight increase in serious adverse events. In people with confirmed COVID-19 and mild symptoms, we found low-certainty evidence that antiplatelets may result in little to no difference in ...

Mpox: Rapid Evidence Review
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Jul;108(1):78-83.ABSTRACTMpox (formerly monkeypox) is a DNA virus of the Orthopoxvirus genus, similar to smallpox. Although mpox was endemic to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and parts of Africa, increasing numbers of cases were reported worldwide in 2022. More than 30,000 cases have been reported in the United States, and worldwide 98% of cases are found in men who have sex with men. Transmission is primarily through contact with skin lesions. The rash of mpox is often vesiculopustular and may be localized to the anogenital region or distributed on the face, trunk, limbs, palms, and soles. Two...

Locating Medical Information during an Infodemic: Information Seeking Behavior and Strategies of Health-Care Workers in Germany
CONCLUSION: Non-physician HCWs more often consulted public information sources. Employers/institutions should ensure the supply of professional, targeted COVID-19 information for different HCW groups.PMID:37297742 | DOI:10.3390/healthcare11111602

Predictive Attributes for Developing Long COVID-A Study Using Machine Learning and Real-World Data from Primary Care Physicians in Germany
Conclusions: The present exploratory study describes an initial investigation of the prediction of potential features increasing the risk of developing long COVID after COVID-19 infection by using the patient history from electronic medical records before COVID-19 infection in primary care practices in Germany using machine learning. Notably, we identified several predictive features for the development of long COVID in patient demographics and their medical histories.PMID:37240616 | PMC:PMC10219004 | DOI:10.3390/jcm12103511

Parsonage-Turner syndrome: A case report of a rare side effect of COVID-19 booster vaccination
Malays Fam Physician. 2023 Apr 2;18:21. doi: 10.51866/cr.184. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe mass vaccination against COVID-19 has saved millions of lives globally. The majority of people experience short-term mild side effects; however, in rare cases, some develop long-term severe adverse events. This case report illustrates the case of a middle-aged man with Parsonage-Turner syndrome, a rare adverse event following COVID-19 immunisation. The patient presented with pain and weakness of the right upper arm for 2 months, which developed 5 days after he received his mRNA COVID-19 booster vaccine. He sought medical attention af...

Flares in IIMs and the timeline following COVID-19 vaccination: a combined analysis of the COVAD-1 and 2 surveys
CONCLUSION: A diagnosis of IIMs confers an equal risk of flares in the post COVID-19 vaccination period to AIRDs, with active disease, female gender, and comorbidities conferring a higher risk. Disparity between patient and physician reported outcomes represents a future avenue for exploration.PMID:37084267 | DOI:10.1093/rheumatology/kead180
