Systematic Development of Standards for Mixed Methods Reporting in Rehabilitation Health Sciences Research
CONCLUSIONS: A systematic process was utilized to develop reporting standards and an appraisal tool for mixed methods research in rehabilitation and health science. The tool is comprehensive, includes a set of criteria grounded in mixed methods research literature, and is flexible for application to a range of mixed methods research designs commonly seen in rehabilitation research.IMPACT: The MMR-RHS may improve quality and transparency of mixed methods research by supporting investigators, authors, reviewers, and editors during project development, manuscript preparation, and critical review. The tool may assist readers i...

Serratus anterior fascia plane block for pain control in patients with multiple rib fractures
Conclusion] We report the cases of three patients who completed respiratory physiotherapy after receiving intermittent SAP blocks for the management of pain due to multiple rib fractures. SAP blocks are associated with a low risk of complications as the ribs are not punctured while performing SAP blocks.PMID:37670765 | PMC:PMC10475645 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.673

Study on the mechanical parameters of neuromuscular joint facilitation rehabilitation techniques for lumbar intervention
Conclusion] This study confirmed that the measurement of the force on the spinous process in lumbar neuromuscular joint facilitation using mechanical measurement gloves has good reliability. Furthermore, we determined the average force exerted on the spinous process during lumbar neuromuscular joint facilitation and quantified the operation specifications of this manipulation were.PMID:37670764 | PMC:PMC10475648 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.628

Academy of Plant-based Physical Therapy: overdue to address a nutrition crisis with a transformative population approach
J Phys Ther Sci. 2023 Sep;35(9):645-658. doi: 10.1589/jpts.35.645. Epub 2023 Sep 2.ABSTRACTThis timely evidence synthesis supports the need for an Academy of Plant-based Physical Therapy. Given epidemiological and empirical evidence and the profession's values and practice scope, the time has come for a specialty of plant-based physical therapy based on population health principles. This review connects these factors. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are largely nutrition-related resulting from unnatural elements of our diet (i.e., heart disease, several cancers, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal di...

Effect of experimentally induced plantar pain on trunk posture during gait
Conclusion] The anterior trunk tilt observed in the with pain condition may be a burden on the trunk. Our results presented one of the possible reasons for increased prevalence of low back pain in the plantar pain patients.PMID:37670762 | PMC:PMC10475643 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.613

Evaluation of a simple activity measurement method in rats
Conclusion] The behavioral analysis method validated in this study used inexpensive and easily accessible equipment and devices. The results show high correlation coefficients for the measurement of distance traveled and activity time performed by experimental animals, demonstrating the reliability of this simple method.PMID:37670761 | PMC:PMC10475646 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.633

Treatment of Calcific Tendonitis of the Rotator Cuff: An Updated Review
Orthopedics. 2023 Sep 6:1-7. doi: 10.3928/01477447-20230901-01. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRotator cuff calcific tendonitis (RCCT) is a disorder that can greatly impair patients' quality of life. A literature review was conducted to find the most effective and newest treatments for RCCT. PubMed and Cochrane Review databases were searched, without strict inclusion/exclusion criteria, for peer-reviewed articles between 1941 and 2021 that discussed RCCT etiology and treatments. If nonoperative measures (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy, and corticosteroids) are unsuccessful, other options include ext...
