The comparison of the suture materials on intestinal anastomotic healing: an experimental study
CONCLUSION: This experimental study demonstrates that suture materials did not worsen tissue healing during intestinal anastomosis. Absorbable, slowly-absorbable, and non-absorbable suture materials could be used safely in every situation.PMID:37681730 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.86579

Validity of Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Gastric Cancer Diagnosed as Differentiated Adenocarcinoma Before Treatment Regardless of Lesion Size
CONCLUSION: Even with a tumor diameter ≥31 mm, curative resection was achieved in about 60% of cases in which intramucosal lesions were considered possible preoperatively, but the rate was low at 8.3% for tumor diameter ≥101 mm. Long-term outcomes appear favorable, with only 0.4% of the patients dying of disease but delayed gastric emptying observed in 1.7% of cases.PMID:37681270 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22611

Endoscopic Ultrasonography-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration for Duodenal Subepithelial Lesions Showing a Hypoechoic Mass on Endoscopic Ultrasound Imaging
CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration for duodenal subepithelial lesions with hypoechoic mass was safe and accurate. As duodenal subepithelial lesion with hypoechoic mass has a reasonably high possibility of containing malignant tumors, it is desirable to perform endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration.PMID:37681269 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22696

Discontinuation of Nucleos(t)ide Analog treatment in HBeAg-Negative Non-Cirrhotic Chronic Hepatitis B Patients: Real-Life Data of 20 Years
CONCLUSION: In resource-limited areas where follow-up of HBsAg or other markers is not possible, nucleos(t)ide analog discontinuation can be considered in patients in the early stage, with low baseline hepatitis B virus DNA and ALT levels, after a long consolidation therapy.PMID:37681268 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22823

Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients with Inherited Metabolic Liver Diseases: A Single-Center Analysis
CONCLUSION: Liver transplant for these categories of patients is associated with good disease-free and overall survival, even in the presence of some seemingly poor prognostic features.PMID:37681267 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22679

A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Convolutional Neural Network in the Diagnosis of Colorectal Polyps and Cancer
Turk J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.5152/tjg.2023.22491. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConvolutional neural networks are a class of deep neural networks used for different clinical purposes, including improving the detection rate of colorectal lesions. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the performance of convolutional neural network-based models in the detection or classification of colorectal polyps and colorectal cancer. A systematic search was performed in MEDLINE, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and other related databases. The performance measures of the convolutional neural network models in the ...

Risk of Hepatitis B Virus Reactivation in Patients with Resolved Infection on Therapy with Corticosteroids and Conventional Synthesis Immunosuppressants for Kidney Disease: A Single-Center Analysis of 258 Patients
CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with a previously resolved hepatitis B virus infection on therapy with corticosteroids and conventional synthesis immunosuppressants for kidney disease, hepatitis B virus reactivation was not common and severe, suggesting that universal prophylaxis may not be justified or cost-effective in this clinical setting.PMID:37681265 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22511

Geographical Distribution of Colorectal Cancer in Southwestern Iran Between Years 2011 and 2019
CONCLUSION: The cumulative incidence of colorectal cancer is relatively high in Khuzestan province. The cumulative incidence of the disease was higher in the central regions of the province than in other regions. Also, based on geographical areas, the cumulative incidence of the disease was higher in areas with arid climates, the average rainfall was 100-200 mm, and in areas with agricultural land use.PMID:37681264 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22666

Investigation of the clinical efficacy of thiol-disulfide homeostasis, delta neutrophil index, and ischemia-modified albumin in cases of incarcerated and strangulated hernia
CONCLUSION: We consider that the preoperative evaluation of the thiol-disulfide homeostasis, IMA, and DNI parameters in incarcerated/strangulated hernia cases can be an effective and easily applicable method in predicting difficulties that may be encountered intraoperatively and the surgical procedure to be applied to the patient.PMID:37681722 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.48313

Investigation of glucose, serum insulin levels, and insulin resistance in patients with major burn: a retrospective cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: In patients with IR, there was insufficient evidence to conclude that the condition persists. We believe that the HOMA-IR value is not directly related to burn injuries and that other additional pathologies may cause it during treatment.PMID:37681721 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.76062

Percutaneous cholecystostomy in the management of acute cholecystitis-comparative analysis of before and after the COVID 19 pandemic
CONCLUSION: PC is an effective and safe treatment method that reduced the operating room and intensive care burden during the exacerbation of the COVID 19 pandemic. Therefore, it seems like a logical option to expand the PC indications at times when the number of COVID 19 patients increases.PMID:37681720 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.22901

Is a guideline required to predict the intensive care unit need of patients over 65 years of age during the pre-operative period? A comparison of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, lung ultrasound score, Charlson age-added comorbidity index, surgi
CONCLUSION: It was detected that ASA, LUSS, CACI, and SORT are effective for the determination of the ICU indication in the pre-operative evaluation process of patients over the age of 65 who had elective surgery. However, the efficiency of SORT was found to be superior to the others.PMID:37681718 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.43082

Risk factors for mortality and morbidity in Syrian refugee children with penetrating abdominal firearm injuries: an 1-year experience
CONCLUSION: The penetrating abdominal trauma index and PTS were found to be effective in predicting mortality and morbidity in pediatric patients with PAFI. It is crucial in this patient group to provide appropriate transport after the first intervention is done rapidly and effectively in conflict zones.PMID:37681717 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.70658
