Contact-Lens-Associated Keratitis-An Often Underestimated Risk
CONCLUSION: The wearing of contact lenses, particularly soft ones, is associated with a risk of microbial keratitis if proper contact-lens hygiene is not exercised. Contact-lens-associated keratitis very rarely causes permanent damage to eyesight (0.6 cases per 10 000 contact-lens wearers per year). The use of contact lenses always calls for meticulous care.PMID:35912449 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0281

The Treatment of Metastatic, Hormone-Sensitive Prostatic Carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The treatment of mHSPC is constantly changing. Phase III trials that are now in the recruitment stage, as well as our continually improving understanding of the underlying molecular-pathological mechanisms, will be altering the treatment landscape still further in the years to come.PMID:35912436 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0294

The Multimodal Treatment of Rectal Cancer
CONCLUSION: The treatment of rectal cancer is a prime example of an interdisciplinary, multimodal approach. In the past, the focus was mainly on improving oncologic outcomes; at present, increasing attention is being devoted to the patients' quality of life as well and the functional aspects of the various modes of treatment.PMID:35791271 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0254

The Clinical Features of Dissection of the Cervical Brain-Supplying Arteries
CONCLUSION: Dissection of the cervical brain-supplying vessels is not always revealed by the imaging methods that are used to detect it. Stroke prevention thus depends on the physician's being aware of the symptoms and signs of this disease entity, so that early diagnosis can be followed by appropriate treatment.PMID:35734920 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0238

Pulmonary and Systemic Pathology in COVID-19-Holistic Pathological Analyses
CONCLUSION: Studies of autopsy material from various tissues of COVID-19 patients have revealed ultrastructural evidence of altered microvascularity, IA, and multifocal thrombi. These changes may contribute to the pathophysiology of post-acute interstitial fibrotic organ changes as well as to the clinical picture of long COVID.PMID:35698804 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0231

Substance Use Disorders in Children and Adolescents
CONCLUSION: As the results of treatment are generally poor, there is a major need for research on the treatment and care of children and adolescents with substance use disorders. In particular, the interfaces between outpatient and inpatient care need further improvement.PMID:35635442 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0122

Polymyalgia Rheumatica-Sex-Specific Epidemiology, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approach, and Medical Care
CONCLUSION: PMR usually takes an uncomplicated course under treatment and can be managed in primary care, but these patients are often multimorbid and require frequent follow-up. Along with research on the etiology of the disease, further studies are needed to identify the risk factors for a chronic course and to evaluate the potential effects of non-pharmacological measures.PMID:35635433 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2022.0218
