Assessment of the quality of services of reception with risk classification in obstetrics: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Quality assessment in the context of maternal health services in Brazil has been the object of study due to maternal mortality rates that remain high in the country, in addition to the high costs of healthcare and the increased level of complexity in care. To change this situation, several strategies have been proposed to improve care for women. One of them is the improvement of women’s access to maternal and child services through the Reception with Obstetric Risk Classification (ACCRO). Objective To map and synthesise scientific evidence in the literature of studies that assess the quality of ACCRO se...

Migration of oral health professionals: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Each year, many dental professionals are trained; however, many low-income and middle-income countries face a scarcity of dental professionals. This trend has been observed because of the migration of oral health professionals from developing to developed countries for various reasons such as professional, economic or personal. This negatively impacts the healthcare system by causing critical shortages of trained personnel to support the oral healthcare needs of the countries where the oral health professionals migrate from (source countries). The key objectives of this scoping review are to assess the intenti...

Methods for evaluation of corneal nerve fibres in diabetes mellitus by in vivo confocal microscopy: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Globally, 422 million people have diabetes. Late complications of diabetes are blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and lower limb amputation. The prevalence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy is 50% and 35%, respectively. In vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) is a rapid, non-invasive method to evaluate subbasal corneal nerve fibres, which are small fibres of the peripheral nervous system. Corneal nerve fibre changes can be a marker of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. There is currently no gold-standard procedure for IVCM imaging, image processing or quantitative analysis of the ...

Primary caregivers perceptions of factors influencing preschool childrens oral health: social practices perspective--a protocol for qualitative metasynthesis
Introduction The role of primary caregivers in setting the foundation for a child’s oral health throughout life is well recognised. Due to the dominant behaviour-based approach, research to date has mainly focused on exploring individual primary caregivers’ oral health knowledge and behaviours. A social science approach involving social practice theories moves beyond individual attitudes, behaviour and choices to offer a better understanding of the ways in which collective activity relates to health. This qualitative metasynthesis will involve an interpretive synthesis of data found in published qualitative lit...

Sex differences in neurology: a scoping review
Conclusions Sex and gender are important biological and social determinants of health. However, the more explicit recognition of these factors in clinical literature has not been adequately translated to significant change in neuroscience research regarding sex differences. This study illustrates the ongoing need for more urgent informed action to recognise and act on sex differences in scientific discovery and correct the use of sex and gender terminology. Trial Registration The protocol for this scoping review was registered with Open Science Framework.

Efficacy and safety of novel oral anticoagulants for the treatment of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism: protocol for an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
Introduction Novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) have been used in antithrombotic therapy in patients with cancer, and their efficacy and safety have been evaluated in several meta-analyses. Although a large body of findings has accumulated to support the benefit of NOACs for the treatment and prevention of cancer-associated thromboembolism, there is no convincing evidence because of inconsistent results across studies and questionable data quality. Its efficacy and safety remain controversial, especially with regard to the risk of bleeding. Methods and analysis We will search PubMed, Embase and Web of science, Cochrane Lib...

Usability of exergames as a home-based balance training tool for older adults: protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Exergames are used in the clinical practice of geriatric rehabilitation to increase physical activity levels and motivate players/patients. Their use in the home environment makes it possible to perform fun, engaging and interactive training with a large number of repetitions, thereby reducing the negative repercussions of postural imbalance in older adults. The aim of this systematic review is to collate and analyse evidence on the usability of exergames as a tool for home-based balance training for older adults. Methods and analysis We will include randomised controlled trials involving healthy older adults...

Incidence and predictors of acquired resistance to second-line antituberculosis drugs during the course of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis treatment: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction To date, acquired resistance to second-line antituberculosis drugs (SLDs) during multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment is becoming a public health concern. Different studies have assessed the incidence of acquired resistance to SLDs. However, the findings are inconsistent and there is limited global evidence. Thus, we are going to assess the incidence and predictors of acquired resistance to SLDs during MDR-TB treatment. Methods and analysis We designed this protocol following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist. Electronic databases and grey literat...

Health inequalities in infectious diseases: a systematic overview of reviews
Conclusion We identified many reviews that provide evidence of various types of health inequalities in different infectious diseases, vaccination, and antimicrobial resistance. We also highlight areas where reviews may be lacking. The commonalities in the associations and their directions suggest it might be worth targeting interventions for some high risk-groups that may have benefits across multiple infectious disease outcomes rather than operating purely in infectious disease siloes.

Examining Indigenous emergency care equity projects: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Indigenous peoples across the globe face inequitable access to high-quality care. Emergency departments are the first point of access for many Indigenous peoples and are the interface between the individual and the healthcare system. There is a reliance on emergency services due to a lack of primary healthcare, a history of mistreatment from providers and increased disease complexity. As such, a potential place for health equity reform is within these departments and other acute care settings. It is the purpose of this review to determine what projects have occurred that address emergency care inequities in fo...
