A first assessment of microplastic contamination in the snow of Ankara, Turkey
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 9. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29594-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicroplastics (MPs), affecting aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, have spread globally. The atmosphere is known as a pollutant acceptor and carrier among other ecosystems. However, the fate and amount of microplastics in the atmosphere have been the subject of less research. Therefore, it is quite important to study the amount and properties of microplastics in atmospheric fallout. The main purpose of this article is to discover microplastics in fresh snow samples collected in three different regions of Ankara and to ide...

Detection of resistance and virulence plasmids in Campylobacter coli and Campylobacter jejuni isolated from North Carolina food animal production, 2018-2019
Food Microbiol. 2023 Dec;116:104348. doi: 10.1016/j.fm.2023.104348. Epub 2023 Aug 11.ABSTRACTCampylobacter remains the leading cause of bacterial foodborne illness in the U.S. and worldwide. Campylobacter plasmids may play a significant role in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence factor distribution, and potentially drive rapid adaptation. C. coli (n = 345) and C. jejuni (n = 199) isolates collected from live cattle, swine, turkey, and chickens, poultry carcasses at production, and retail meat in N.C. were analyzed to determine plasmid prevalence, extrachromosomal virulence and AMR genes, and the phylogeny of asse...

The comparison of the suture materials on intestinal anastomotic healing: an experimental study
CONCLUSION: This experimental study demonstrates that suture materials did not worsen tissue healing during intestinal anastomosis. Absorbable, slowly-absorbable, and non-absorbable suture materials could be used safely in every situation.PMID:37681730 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.86579

Selection for antimicrobial prophylaxis in emergency and elective transurethral procedures: Susceptibility pattern in T ürkiye
CONCLUSION: We found that currently recommended antimicrobials provide poor coverage for the most common pathogens isolated. Urologists should consider patient-based antibiotic prophylaxis in endoscopic urethral procedures, follow appropriate proto-cols, and consider local antibiotic resistance.PMID:37681729 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.99663

Comparison of sinus tarsi approach versus extensile lateral approach in the management of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures: A single-center study
CONCLUSION: In DIACFs, STA is considered a safe and effective method for restoring the width, height, and length of the calca-neus and reconstruction of joint alignment and has now become our standard technique for all calcaneal fractures requiring operative treatment.PMID:37681728 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.13642

Elevated HbA1c level associated with disease severity and surgical extension in diabetic foot patients
CONCLUSION: The results of this study showed that as HbA1c values at diagnosis increased in patients with diabetic foot; Wagner/PEDIS grades, disease severity, surgical extension, amputation level, and tissue loss increased. To reduce the severity of diabetic foot disease and prevent amputation, compliance with diabetic treatment and glycemic control should be increased.PMID:37681727 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.08939

In-hospital outcomes of patients undergoing emergent surgical treatment in patients with infective endocarditis
CONCLUSION: Advanced age, lower ejection fraction, high creatinine, positive blood culture, high systolic pulmonary artery pressure, and septic shock predicted in-hospital death in patients who have undergone emergent or urgent surgery due to infective endocarditis.PMID:37681726 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.23162
