Operating microscope-assisted reconstructive strategy for peri-implantitis: A case series report
CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary data suggest encouraging outcomes after the microsurgical approach following biological as well as biomechanical principles for peri-implant defect reconstruction.PMID:37724638 | DOI:10.1002/cap.10265

Early Clinical Results Following Repair of Gluteal Tendon Tears
J Surg Orthop Adv. 2023 Summer;32(2):75-82.ABSTRACTGluteal tendinopathy is a common source of impairment in adults due to degenerative changes in the gluteus medius tendon. We identified patients with gluteal tendinopathy who underwent surgery with a minimum six-month follow up. Radiographs, magnetic resonance images, demographic data, Hip Outcome Score (HOS), Veterans Rand 12-item health survey (VR-12), and a patient survey were reviewed. The cohort consisted of seventeen complete tears and thirty-one partial tears of the gluteal medius tendon (n = 48). Of patients, 72.9% reported satisfaction with surgery and noted 95.5%...

Real-world evidence for secukinumab in UK patients with psoriatic arthritis or radiographic axial spondyloarthritis: interim 2-year analysis from SERENA
CONCLUSION: This analysis of real-world data from the UK demonstrates high retention rates for secukinumab over 2 years in patients with PsA or r-axSpA, with a favourable safety profile.PMID:37663578 | PMC:PMC10472087 | DOI:10.1093/rap/rkad055

Creating Virtual Models and 3D Movies Using DemoMaker for Anatomical Education
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1431:161-175. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-36727-4_8.ABSTRACTThree-dimensional (3D) anatomy models have been used for education in health professional schools globally. Virtual technology has become more popular for online teaching since the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter will describe a project in which a series of virtual anatomical models of organs and structures were developed for educational purposes, and it will describe in detail how to build three-dimensional (3D) movies using DemoMaker. Although setting up the 3D system was complicated and challenging, the process of reconstructing 3D models from...

Endobronchially Implanted Real-Time Electromagnetic Transponder Beacon-Guided, Respiratory-Gated SABR for Moving Lung Tumors: A Prospective Phase 1/2 Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: EMT-guided RG-SABR significantly reduced PTVs of moving lung tumors compared with image-guided SABR. EMT-guided RG-SABR should be considered for tumors with large respiratory motion amplitudes or those located in close proximity to OARs.PMID:37408673 | PMC:PMC10318214 | DOI:10.1016/j.adro.2023.101243

Patterns of Failure in High-Grade Soft Tissue Sarcomas of the Extremities and Trunk Wall After Pre- or Postoperative Radiation Therapy
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of LRs occurred within the PTV suggesting that LR is most likely not a consequence of inadequate target volume definition, but rather of radioresistant tumor biology. To further improve local tumor control, future research on the potential of dose escalation with normal tissue sparing, STS subtype-specific tumor biology, radiosensitivity, and surgical technique is indicated.PMID:37213480 | PMC:PMC10196229 | DOI:10.1016/j.adro.2023.101224

Exploring the impact of COVID-19 on the psychological well-being of oncology healthcare professionals
CONCLUSION: This study has highlighted the dynamic nature of well-being amongst HCPs during the pandemic. Well-being interventions should build on the preferred coping strategies of HCPs, focusing on the way individuals coalesce in groups to learn from and support one another.IMPACT: HCPs may experience different psychological responses when exposed to a pandemic situation. This study identifies the strategies used by HCPs to maintain positive psychological well-being within professional roles, whilst adjusting to emerging well-being threats. Key components of HCP's well-being are addressed, which are relevant to clinical ...

Is an Orthopaedic Surgery Resident's Previous Case Experience Associated with Success of Initial Treatment of Pediatric Forearm Fractures?
J Surg Orthop Adv. 2023 Spring;32(1):32-35.ABSTRACTRedisplacement and subsequent intervention are common for pediatric forearm fractures. We investigated associations between the success of closed reduction and the treating provider's experience. We identified patients aged 4-16 years with forearm fractures treated by closed reduction and cast immobilization. Clinical data and radiographs of 130 patients treated by 30 residents were reviewed to determine the treating resident's pediatric forearm fracture reduction experience and the incidence of initial treatment failure (ITF). ITF was defined as subsequent intervention be...

Efficacy of laser interstitial thermal therapy for biopsy-proven radiation necrosis in radiographically recurrent brain metastases
CONCLUSIONS: LITT for RN was not only again found to be safe with low patient morbidity but was also a highly effective treatment for RN for both local control and symptom management (including seizures). In addition to averting expected neurological death, LITT facilitates ongoing systemic therapy (in particular immunotherapy) by enabling the rapid cessation of steroids, thereby facilitating maximal possible survival for these patients.PMID:37114245 | PMC:PMC10129388 | DOI:10.1093/noajnl/vdad031

The Supervisees' Perspectives Concerning the Clinical Supervision of Radiologic Sciences Students at Clinical Sites: Implications and Future Directions
CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of CS has been evaluated in third and fourth year students across the two divisions of RS the department at Kuwait University. This study showed that students value the impact of CS in their professional role and 70% reported being satisfied with the overall CS experience. Limited studies are available that focuses on students' perceptions about clinical supervision; therefore, more studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of CS among RS students. Implications for interprofessional education are presented.PMID:37016623 | PMC:PMC10066897 | DOI:10.2147/AMEP.S397035
