A modified esophagogastric reconstruction method after laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy: A technical note with video vignette
CONCLUSION: The "arch-bridge-type" reconstruction method is safe and time saving. It has advantages in simplifying the procedure of conventional double flap technique and reducing postoperative complications after proximal gastrectomy.PMID:37730505 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.09.017

Prevalence of women with breast implants in Sweden: a study based on the population-based mammography screening programme
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of breast implants in Swedish women is estimated to be around 4%. The population-based mammography screening programme in countries with a publicly funded welfare-type healthcare system and a clear documentation of mammography screening attendance, seems to be a feasible way to establish the prevalence of breast implants in the population. The large number of women with breast implants warrants further studies regarding the best diagnostic and treatment alternatives for this group. Pre-registration: ClinicalTrials.Gov identifier NCT05222100.PMID:37728392 | DOI:10.2340/jphs.v58.15298

Total Wrist Arthroplasty With a New Design, 20 Cases With 8-Year Follow-Up
CONCLUSIONS: The new TWA resulted in improved VAS pain scores, PROMs, wrist extension, and hand grip strength. The high frequency of reoperation is a concern, and modification of the implant is needed.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic IV.PMID:37715756 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2023.08.004

No effect of hydroxyapatite-coated sliding hip screw threads on screw migration in the femoral head/neck of pertrochanteric fractures: a randomized controlled trial using radiostereometric analysis
CONCLUSION: There was no clinical benefit of hydroxyapatite coating on lag screw migration in this patient cohort. Migration of the pertrochanteric fractures was higher with poor fracture reposition but fractures generally stabilized after 6 weeks follow-up. The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05677061).LEVEL OF EVIDENCE II: Patient-blinded prospective randomized study. Trial registration number The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05677061).PMID:37710269 | DOI:10.1186/s13018-023-04170-0

Radiocarpal arthrodesis revision with a pyrocarbon implant
We report the case of a patient who was dissatisfied with the outcome of radiocarpal arthrodesis, due to lack of motion despite complete absence of pain. We replaced arthrodesis by a pyrocarbon interposition implant. At 20 months' follow-up, the results showed complete absence of pain, partially restored range of motion and the implant in good position on radiographs. We believe that pyrocarbon implants may be a solution for patients dissatisfied with palliative treatment by arthrodesis.PMID:37709254 | DOI:10.1016/j.hansur.2023.08.010

Total wrist arthroplasty with the Freedom ® prosthesis: a short-term follow-up
J Hand Surg Eur Vol. 2023 Sep 11:17531934231193119. doi: 10.1177/17531934231193119. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe retrospectively reviewed our series of primary total wrist arthroplasty with the Freedom® prosthesis. The primary outcome measure was revision, and secondary measures included radiographic loosening, pain, complications, movement range, grip strength and patient-reported measures. We reviewed 12 implants in 11 patients (mean age 59 years, range 45-80) with a mean radiological and clinical follow-up of 2.7 and 3 years, respectively. One radial component failed to integrate and was revised at Day 84. Four car...

Anatomic repair and ligament bracing as an alternative treatment option for acute combined PCL injuries involving the posteromedial or posterolateral corner-results of a multicentre study
CONCLUSIONS: One-stage suture repair with ligament bracing is a viable technique for acute combined PCL injuries and predominantly leads to good and excellent clinical outcomes. Patients with PLC injuries show a tendency towards inferior outcomes and higher instability rates compared to PMC injuries. These results may help in therapy planning and counselling patients with these rare injury pattern.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level II.PMID:37691046 | DOI:10.1007/s00402-023-05015-5

Dual Parallel Intramedullary K-Wires for Arthrodesis of the Finger Distal or Thumb Interphalangeal Joints
CONCLUSIONS: This technique is simple and cost-effective and achieves a good union rate. The advantages include the ability to choose variable K-wire sizes according to the size of the medullary canal and the ease of postoperative care.PMID:37680173 | DOI:10.1111/os.13852

The Effect of an Intraoperative Real-Time Counter on Radiation Exposure Events During Operative Treatment of Distal Radius Fractures
CONCLUSIONS: A real-time intraoperative radiograph counter was associated with decreased REEs, exposure times, and total radiation doses during ORIF DRFs. Cases performed with a SC had significantly shorter operative times without compromising reduction quality. Using an intraoperative SC counter during cases requiring fluoroscopy may aid in decreasing radiation exposure, which serves as an occupational hazard for hand and upper-extremity surgeons.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic II.PMID:37676191 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2023.07.013
