Three-dimensional analysis of posttraumatic tibial shaft malunion and correction based on the healthy, contralateral leg
Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s00064-023-00821-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Three-dimensional (3D) analysis and implementation with patient-specific cutting and repositioning blocks enables correction of complex tibial malunions. Correction can be planned using the contralateral side or a statistical model. Patient-specific 3D-printed cutting guide blocks enable a precise osteotomy and reduction guide blocks help to achieve anatomical reduction. Depending on the type and extent of correction, fibula osteotomy may need to be considered to achieve the desired reduction.CONTRAINDICATIONS: a) ...

Acute Traumatic Intervertebral Disc Herniation
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2023;90(4):283-287.ABSTRACTAcute traumatic intervertebral disc herniation of the thoracic spine is a rather rare injury with only a few reported cases to date. In this manuscript, we present a case of a 58-year-old male patient who sustained a car accident-related high-energy trauma, resulting in a disc herniation of the thoracic spine. Furthermore, we also discuss the possible implications of late diagnosis of such condition. The patient was initially referred from the Emergency Department as a case of head contusion with a left upper limb paresis. Due to only minimal bony trauma visible o...

Analysis of predictive factors for post-traumatic osteoarthritis and poor outcomes in acetabular fractures treated surgically
CONCLUSION: For a favorable functional outcome in acetabular fractures, preservation of the biological hip joint should be a top priority. The accompanying dislocation and the patient's diabetes appear to be uncontrollable factors for the poor prognosis. Good reduction qual- ity and wound infection protection are modifiable factors.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV, Therapeutic Study.PMID:37670447 | DOI:10.5152/j.aott.2023.22124

Intraoperative fluoroscopic safety assessment of femoral head implants with 3-dimensional risk parameters to minimize cut-out
CONCLUSION: By incorporating the newly introduced 3-dimensional risk parameter, surgeons can more precisely evaluate the position of the implant and avoid cut-out complications, instead of relying solely on misleading 2-dimensional fluoroscopic projections of the femoral head.PMID:37670446 | DOI:10.5152/j.aott.2023.22175

Patient-Reported Outcomes and Computed Tomography Review After Minimally Invasive Fusion of the Sacroiliac Joint With Aggressive Joint Decortication and Joint Compression
Orthopedics. 2023 Sep 6:1-7. doi: 10.3928/01477447-20230901-04. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a common, underrecognized source of low back pain. We evaluated outcomes in patients undergoing sacroiliac joint fusion (SIJF) using a novel, minimally invasive SIJF system emphasizing compressive forces across an aggressively debrided SIJ. We retrospectively reviewed data from a continuous set of patients presenting to a large, tertiary care hospital from September 2017 to August 2019. All patients received the novel SIJF device. Outcomes were assessed at 8 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months using the Os...
