Radiographic and histological assessment of root resorption associated with conventional and mini-screw assisted rapid palatal expansion: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Maxillary expansion with RPE can lead to root resorption of maxillary posterior teeth. Root resorption occurs more frequently on buccal surfaces on maxillary posterior teeth. Limited evidence suggests that MARPE may lead to reduced root resorption than RPE.REGISTRATION: This systematic review was conducted following the Cochrane handbook for systematic reviews and interventions and reported according to the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The protocol was registered at PROSPERO database (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/; registration number...

Biochemically recurrent prostate cancer: rationalisation of the approach to imaging
CONCLUSION: An imaging strategy based on risk stratification and technique-specific selection criteria leads to more appropriate use of resources, and in turn, increases the yield of conventional imaging methods. MRI prostate findings can be used to predict the additive value of CT/NM bone scintigraphy allowing a more streamlined approach to their use.PMID:37085338 | DOI:10.1016/j.crad.2023.03.014

Outcomes of arthroscopic versus open reduction and internal fixation for the treatment of acute traumatic lunate fractures: a systematic review
Hand Surg Rehabil. 2023 Jun 24:S2468-1229(23)00114-7. doi: 10.1016/j.hansur.2023.06.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of the study was to compare outcomes of fully-arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation (ARIF) versus open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) to treat acute traumatic lunate fractures. A literature search was conducted using Medline and Embase. Demographic data and outcomes were extracted for included studies. The search identified 2,146 references: 17 articles were included, reporting on 20 cases (4 ARIF and 16 ORIF). No differences between ARIF and ORIF were found in rate of union (100...

Considering skin-to-muscle depth for successful intramuscular injections in an increasingly obese population
CONCLUSIONS: There should be an assessment of obesity status before selecting needle length for IM injections in both genders. Needles longer than the standard 37 mm are recommended for all females, whatever their obesity status, for any gluteal site. Injections into gluteal sites should be avoided in females who are obese. Deltoid injections are more likely to achieve muscle penetration in both genders, and in patients who are overweight or obese. Further research is required.PMID:37410678 | DOI:10.12968/bjon.2023.32.13.628
