An interrupted time series study of electronic health record clinical decision support for providers caring for patients with atrial fibrillation at increased stroke risk
CONCLUSION: There was a significant trend of increasing anticoagulation rates during the pre-BPA period, with no significant change in trend during the post-BPA period relative to the pre-BPA period.PMID:37696764 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxad188

PharmVar Tutorial on CYP2D6 Structural Variation Testing and Recommendations on Reporting
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2023 Sep 5. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3044. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Pharmacogene Variation Consortium (PharmVar) provides nomenclature for the highly polymorphic human CYP2D6 gene locus and a comprehensive summary of structural variation. CYP2D6 contributes to the metabolism of numerous drugs and thus, genetic variation in its gene impacts drug efficacy and safety. To accurately predict a patient's CYP2D6 phenotype, testing must include structural variants including gene deletions, duplications, hybrid genes, and combinations thereof. This tutorial offers a comprehensive overview of CYP2D6 structural ...

Comparison of EHR data-completeness in patients with different types of medical insurance coverage in the United States
In this study, we compared EHR continuity in populations covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance. Using claims linked EHRs from a multi-center network in Massachusetts, including Medicare (MA EHR-Medicare cohort) and Medicaid (MA EHR-Medicaid cohort) claims data; and TriNetX (TriNetX cohort) claims linked EHR data from 11 US based healthcare organizations, we assessed (1) EHR-continuity quantified by proportion of encounters captured by EHR (capture proportion, CP); (2) area under receiver operating curve (AUROC) of previously validated model to identify patients with high EHR-continuity (CP>0.6); (3) mis...

Identifying the most important data for research in the field of infectious diseases: thinking on the basis of artificial intelligence
CONCLUSIONS: This article identified that structured variables have comprised the most important data in research to generate knowledge in the field of ID. Extracting these data should be a priority when a medical centre intends to start an AI programme for ID. We also documented that the most important unstructured data in this field are those related to clinical manifestations. Such data could easily undergo some structuring with the use of semi-structured medical records focusing on a few symptoms.PMID:37575020 | DOI:10.37201/req/032.2023
