Step-Wise Management of Anemia in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease in Primary Care: Qualitative Study
CONCLUSIONS: The first steps of the intervention were welcomed by practitioners, but they expressed concerns about independently prescribing ESAs. Renal physicians and GPs could develop shared care protocols for ESA use in primary care. There is scope to improve awareness of renal anemia, and enhance knowledge of guideline recommendations; and our intervention should be modified accordingly.PMID:36604823 | DOI:10.1177/21501319221144955

Weekly Australian Health IT Links – 1 August, 2022.
Here are a few I have come across the last week or so. Note: Each link is followed by a title and a few paragraphs. For the full article click on the link above title of the article. Love the new Minister has ambitions to be maximally photogenic and not a ‘techie’!Otherwise all sorts of fun things!-----https://www.ausd...

Diagnostic workup of cancer in patients with new-onset anaemia: a Danish cohort study in general practice
CONCLUSION: Around half of the patients with anaemia subtypes that may indicate underlying cancer had no cancer-relevant diagnostic investigations performed. This may represent missed diagnostic opportunities. Future interventions are needed to improve the diagnostic workup of cancer in patients with anaemia, for example, laboratory alert systems and clinical decision support.KEY POINTSThe general practitioners are often the first to detect anaemia and its underlying disease (e.g. undiagnosed malignancy).Large-scale studies are needed on the diagnostic workup of patients with anaemia in general practice in relation to an u...

Drug interactions in users of tablet vs. oral liquid levothyroxine formulations: a real-world evidence study in primary care
ConclusionsIn clinical practice, the use of oral liquid LT4 is not associated with increased PDDs, compared with tablets formulation, during exposure to DDIs. These results support the need for individualizing LT4 formulation to prescribe, especially in patients with various comorbidities and complex therapeutic regimens.
