Femoral artery cannulation as a safe alternative for aortic dissection arch repair in the era of axillary artery cannulation
CONCLUSIONS: Femoral artery cannulation produced similar perioperative outcomes to axillary cannulation after open arch repair for TAAD. The femoral artery can be used as a safe and effective alternative to the axillary artery for arterial cannulation in TAAD patients undergoing open arch repair.PMID:33717540 | PMC:PMC7947520 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-20-2113

Increased glucose variability is associated with major adverse events in patients with infective endocarditis undergo surgical treatment
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this retrospective investigation demonstrated that increased GV measured by CV is an independent predictor of postoperative MAEs in patients undergoing surgical treatment for IE.PMID:33717538 | PMC:PMC7947509 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-20-2692

Fast-track anesthesia in lateral mini-thoracotomy for transapical transcatheter valve implantation
CONCLUSIONS: Fast-track anesthesia using paravertebral-blockade for transcatheter transapical valve replacement in high-risk patients is a possible anesthetic approach. An effective PVB, in addition to a double-lumen laryngeal mask, provide an alternative strategy to conventional general anesthesia. These promising results could encourage further consideration of this approach in similar cardiac surgery patients.PMID:34527324 | PMC:PMC8411149 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-21-751
