Supportive care needs of caregivers of individuals following stroke: a synopsis of research.
Authors: MacIsaac L, Harrison MB, Godfrey C Abstract Approximately 75% of stroke survivors are discharged from hospital to the community with varying degrees of residual neurological deficits (Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 2003). As a part of a masters' thesis, a systematic review was conducted to synthesize the research related to the identification of family needs during the acute phase of stroke in order to facilitate successful transition into the role of caregiver. Relevant articles were identified using: CINAHL, MEDLINE, All EBM Reviews, Psych Info, Embase, and AARP Ageline (1978 to December 2007)...

Factors Associated With the Hospital Arrival Time in Patients With Ischemic Stroke in Korea
Background: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability among the Korean population. Ischemic stroke patients tend to delay arrival at the hospital and often miss the “golden” 3-hour window, which is optimal for tissue plasminogen activator treatment. Objective: The purposes of this study were to compare demographic, clinical/behavioral, and sociocultural characteristics of ischemic stroke patients who reside in urban and rural areas of Korea and to identify factors contributing to the time taken from symptom onset to hospital arrival. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted using a structur...

Patient Pathways During Acute in-Hospital Stroke Treatment: A Qualitative Multi-Method Study
Discussion:Our results show that most direct staff-patient interactions are focussed within one phase, with a smaller number of interactions extending to other phases, and no professional (group) with direct patient interactions cover more than two phases of the acute stroke pathway. Future research should investigate how the pathways described here are experienced from the patient perspective, including how the organisation of visible care processes may influence patient satisfaction. Findings can be translated to accessible patient information resources as well as input for digitalisation efforts, provider orientation an...

Effect of a Hospital-To-Home Transitional Intervention Based on an Interaction Model of Client Health Behavior for Adult Patients with Stroke
J Community Health Nurs. 2023 Jul 10:1-16. doi: 10.1080/07370016.2023.2227154. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo develop and identify the effectiveness of a hospital-to-home transitional intervention based on an interaction model of client health behavior in adult patients with stroke. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest. Thirty-eight patients participated (18=intervention, 20=control); the intervention group received 12 weeks of the intervention. The intervention influenced anxiety, disease severity, health behavior adherence, patient satisfaction, and quality of life in adult patients with stroke. Transitional...
