Infectiousness of HIV Seropositive Tuberculosis Patients in a High-burden African Setting.
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that HIV seropositive tuberculosis cases may be less infectious than seronegative patients only when they are smear-negative or lack cavitary lung disease. These results may explain heterogeneity between prior studies and provide evidence suggesting that tuberculosis contact investigation should include HIV seropositive index cases in high disease burden settings. Detection and Quantification of Differentially Culturable Tubercle Bacteria in Sputum from Tuberculosis Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: These observations demonstrate a novel Rpf-independent DCTB population in sputum and reveal that reduced host immunity is associated with lower prevalence of CF-responsive bacteria. Quantification of DCTB in standard TB diagnosis would be beneficial as these organisms provide a putative biomarker to monitor treatment response and risk of disease recurrence. Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) in India: Results of a Prospective Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with ILD in India have HP followed by CTD-ILD and IPF; diagnoses varied between site investigators and CILD experts in the US, emphasizing the value of MDD in ILD diagnosis. Prompted case report forms including environmental exposures in prospective registries will likely provide further insight into the etiology, understanding and management of ILD worldwide. SP110b Controls Host Immunity and Susceptibility to Tuberculosis.
CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that SP110b plays a crucial role in shaping the inflammatory milieu supporting host protection during infection by fine-tuning NF-κB activity, suggesting that SP110b may serve as a potential target for host-directed therapy aiming to manipulate the host immunity against TB.
