The relation between oxidative stress parameters, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Oxidative stress may play a role in the pathogenesis of both ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke in terms of oxidants. We do not think that oxidative stress has any effect in determining stroke severity in either type of stroke. PMID: 26422872 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Comparison of conventional and modern methods in determining ischemic stroke etiology by general and stroke neurologists
Conclusion: The CCS system improved compliance in both stroke and general neurologists compared with TOAST. This suggests that the automatic, evidence-based, easily reproducible CCS system was superior to the TOAST system. PMID: 30764594 [PubMed - in process]

Cognitive impairment one year after ischemic stroke: predictorsand dynamics of significant determinants.
CONCLUSION: The level of inflammatory markers could be considered as an additional criterion of long-term cognitive impairment. PMID: 27966299 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on Lower Extremity Motor Function and Ambulation in Stroke Patients
CONCLUSION: Vitamin D supplementation may increase the success of rehabilitation therapy in patients during the first 3 months post-stroke.PMID:33705638 | DOI:10.3906/sag-2010-287

The effects of early neurodevelopmental Bobath approach and mobilization on quadriceps muscle thickness in stroke patients
Conclusion: It can be seen that QMT can be preserved and functional improvements can be provided through intense physiotherapy and mobilization initiated in the early period following stroke. PMID: 30761855 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence and prognosis of intracranial stenosis in acute ischemic stroke; a single center registry from Turkey
Conclusion: ICS was seen in 11.6% of acute ischemic stroke cases in our registry. DM appears to be the major risk factor for ICS. Disability was better in patients with ICS. Ethnicity could be a factor causing better disability. PMID: 29153338 [PubMed]

Physiological and pharmacological roles of melatonin in the pathophysiological components of cellular injury after ischemic stroke.
Authors: KiliÇ E, ÇaĞlayan B, Caglar Beker M Abstract Apart from its metabolic or physiological functions, melatonin has a potent cytoprotective activity in the physiological and pathological conditions. It is synthetized by the pineal gland and released into the blood circulation but particularly cerebrospinal fluid in a circadian manner. It can also easily diffuse through cellular membranes due its small size and lipophilic structure. Its cytoprotective activity has been linked to its potent free radical scavenger activity with the desirable characteristics of a clinically- reliable antioxidant. Melatonin deto...

The effect of swimming and type of stroke on bone metabolism in competitive adolescent swimmers: a pilot study.
CONCLUSION: This was the first study to evaluate the effect of swimming stroke on BMD. Although no effect was statistically shown, further studies with a larger series may determine this effect. PMID: 26422853 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

The psychometric evaluation of the Turkish version of the Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability in patients in the early period after stroke
Conclusion: Our results suggest that the Turkish version of the MASA is a valid and reliable instrument when determining dysphagia in patients in the early period after a stroke. PMID: 30541241 [PubMed]

Investigation of the relationship between ischemic stroke and endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene polymorphisms G894T, intron 4 VNTR and T786C
Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the eNOS G894T and T786C [rs2070744] polymorphisms are not associated with the risk of ischemic stroke, whereas the intron 4 [27-bpTR] VNTR may be a risk factor in the Anatolian population. PMID: 30997974 [PubMed - in process]

Peripheral axonal excitability in hemiplegia related to subacute stroke.
CONCLUSION: The lower motor neurons were affected at the level of axonal channels as a result of upper motor neuron lesion. It can be due to dying back neuropathy, homeostasis and neurovascular regulation changes in the axonal environment, activity dependant plastic changes, loss of drive coming from the central nervous system or the combination of these factors. An investigation of the factors that influence functional improvement in stroke rehabilitation
CONCLUSIONS: Results show that functional improvement after rehabilitation was better in the younger ages, shorter CVA durations and moderate functional disturbances. The findings obtained may be useful for stroke rehabilitation triage.PMID:33705646 | DOI:10.3906/sag-2101-94

Clinicoradiological evaluation of oxidative stress activity in acute cerebral infarction in the first 24 h and the qualitative importance of dysfunctional HDL in stroke
We examined the relationship of serum neuro-oxidative stress parameters with stroke severity and infarct volume in ACI and emphasized the qualitative importance of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) on its relationship with myeloperoxidase (MPO) and paraoxonase-1 (PON1) in the acute period of stroke.METHODS: One hundred ACI patients applied within the first 24 h and 50 healthy volunteers were included. The patient group was evaluated with demographic data (including arrival serum biochemical assessment), clinical disability scores, infarct volume, serum oxidative/antioxidative parameters (lipid hydroperoxide (LOOH), MPO, PON1,...
