Hemorrhagic complications after removal of an external ventricular drain: A case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: Removal of an EVD is a safe procedure, with rare cases of hemorrhagic complications being reported. A case of a large hematoma that formed after the removal of an EVD is presented. Stricter follow-up protocols should be implemented to better estimate the risk of hemorrhage.PMID:37680933 | PMC:PMC10481797 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_415_2023

Acute and subacute neurovascular impact of cryptogenic air emboli
CONCLUSION: This case highlights that cerebral air emboli can cause delayed ischemia that may not be appreciated on initial imaging. As such, affected patients may require intensive neurocritical care management, close neurologic monitoring, and repeat imaging irrespective of initial radiographic findings.PMID:37680929 | PMC:PMC10481802 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_382_2023

Cervical dumbbell-type tumor spontaneously shrinking following an ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: Here, we report on a 57-year-old man with cervical MR images revealing that a cervical dumbbell schwannoma was progressively compressing both the spinal cord and the right vertebral artery. However, following a cerebral infarction, the tumor underwent spontaneous shrinkage over the next 4 years, thus relieving the compression.PMID:37680907 | PMC:PMC10481817 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_613_2023

Association between population changes and the number of endovascular thrombectomies
CONCLUSION: The number of mechanical thrombectomies may decrease in areas where the overall population reduction rate exceeds 8% or the increased rate of the population aged >65 years is <4%. However, it is necessary to continue establishing a system for MT in areas that have yet to reach these levels.PMID:37404525 | PMC:PMC10316200 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_309_2023

Prevalence and risk factors of unruptured intracranial aneurysms in ischemic stroke patients - A global meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of UIA is notably higher in ischemic stroke patients than the general population. Physicians should be aware of common risk factors in stroke and aneurysm formation for appropriate prevention.PMID:37404522 | PMC:PMC10316137 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_190_2023
