Antiplatelet Therapy Combinations and Thrombogenicity in Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: In patients with NVAF, combination antiplatelet therapy showed reductions for vWF:Ag and fibrinogen levels, which may be associated with the inhibitory levels of ADP-mediated PR. The clinical implications of these findings need to be evaluated in future trials. PMID: 28567087 [PubMed - in process]

The Current Status of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Korea: Based on Year 2014 Cohort of Korean Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (K-PCI) Registry.
CONCLUSION: These data may provide an overview of the current PCI practices and in-hospital outcomes in Korea and could be used as a foundation for developing treatment guidelines and nationwide clinical research. PMID: 28567083 [PubMed - in process]

Systematic Review of Treatment for Trapped Thrombus in Patent Foramen Ovale.
CONCLUSION: This systematic review showed that surgery was associated with a lower overall incidence of post-treatment embolic events and a lower 60-day mortality in patients with trapped thrombus in a PFO. In patients without initial shock or arrest, thrombolysis was related with a higher 60-day mortality compared with surgery. PMID: 28955396 [PubMed]

Atrial Fibrillation in Heart Failure: a Therapeutic Challenge of Our Times.
Authors: Batul SA, Gopinathannair R Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) are growing cardiovascular disease epidemics worldwide. There has been an exponential increase in the prevalence of AF and HF correlating with an increased burden of cardiac risk factors and improved survival rates in patients with structural heart disease. AF is associated with adverse prognostic outcomes in HF and is most evident in mild-to-moderate left ventricular (LV) dysfunction where the loss of "atrial kick" translates into poorer quality of life and increased mortality. In the absence of underlying structural heart...

Prognostic Application of Thoracic Aortic Calcium Scoring for Adverse Clinical Outcome Risk in Elderly Patients with Left Ventricular Hypertrophy.
CONCLUSION: TACS provides robust predictive utility for a composite of cardiovascular events and cardiac death in persons with LVH. This finding was less pronounced in those with a relatively healthy myocardium, defined by the absence of LVH. PMID: 29035431 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Use Pattern and Clinical Impact of New Antiplatelet Agents Including Prasugrel and Ticagrelor on 30-day Outcomes after Acute Myocardial Infarction in Korea: Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Data.
CONCLUSION: The use of new antiplatelet agents is rapidly increasing, and they have been used more commonly than clopidogrel since 2015. We demonstrated that new antiplatelet agents have a favorable effect on reducing 30-day mortality in AMI patients in Korea. PMID: 29035430 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Long-term Prognosis and Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Newly Diagnosed Diabetes Mellitus Detected after First Acute Myocardial Infarction: from KAMIR-NIH Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Known-DM was associated with a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular events after AMI, while new-DM had a similar risk of cardiac events as that noted for non-DM. There were different cardiovascular outcomes according to diabetes status in patients with AMI. PMID: 29441746 [PubMed]

Comparative Cardiovascular Risks of Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitors: Analyses of Real-world Data in Korea.
CONCLUSIONS: Compared to sitagliptin therapy, saxagliptin, linagliptin, and gemigliptin therapies were all associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events. PMID: 29671284 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk Scoring System to Assess Outcomes in Patients Treated with Contemporary Guideline-Adherent Optimal Therapies after Acute Myocardial Infarction.
CONCLUSIONS: The KorMI system would be a useful tool for predicting outcomes in survivors treated with guideline-adherent optimal therapies after AMI. PMID: 29856143 [PubMed]

Prevalence of Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation Based on Geographical Distribution and Socioeconomic Status in the Entire Korean Population.
CONCLUSIONS: Geographical location of residence and income levels were closely associated with the prevalence of AF and antithrombotic therapy utilization. This information may provide further insights for more effective surveillance of AF and stroke prevention for improved clinical outcomes. PMID: 29968435 [PubMed]

2018 Korean Guideline of Atrial Fibrillation Management.
This article provides general principles for appropriate risk stratification and selection of anticoagulation therapy in Korean patients with AF. This guideline deals with optimal stroke prevention, screening, rate and rhythm control, risk factor management, and integrated management of AF. PMID: 30403013 [PubMed]

Benefit of Four-Dimensional Computed Tomography Derived Ejection Fraction of the Left Atrial Appendage to Predict Thromboembolic Risk in the Patients with Valvular Heart Disease.
CONCLUSIONS: In the patients who underwent 4DCT for cardiac valve evaluation before surgery, EFCT by volume analysis might have additional role to evaluate LAA function and estimate the risk of thrombus. PMID: 30468031 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Temporal Trends of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Implantations: a Nationwide Population-based Study.
CONCLUSIONS: The number of CIED implantation increased substantially from 2009 to 2016 in Korea. Also, the patients with CIED have been changed to be older and have more comorbidities. Therefore, the burden of health care cost in patients with CIED would be expected to increase in the future. PMID: 31074230 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting for the Treatment of Left Main Coronary Artery Disease.
Authors: Cho SC, Park DW, Park SJ Abstract Severe stenosis of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) generally occurs as a result of atherosclerosis and compromises the blood supply to a wide area of myocardium, thereby increasing the risk of serious adverse cardiac events. Current revascularization strategies for patients with significant LMCA disease include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), both of which have a range of advantages and disadvantages. In general, PCI is associated with a lower rate of periprocedural adverse events and provides more rapid recovery, w...

Procedural, Early and Long-term Outcomes after Percutaneous Closure of Atrial Septal Defect: Comparison between Large and Very Large Atrial Septal Defect Groups.
CONCLUSIONS: Although MIT was more frequently required in very large ASD groups, the procedural, early and long-term outcomes after percutaneous ASD closure were similar in both groups. This suggested that percutaneous ASD closure for very large ASD could be considered a good treatment option. PMID: 31165594 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
