Diseases of the Coronary Microcirculation: Diagnosis and Treatment
CONCLUSION: Approximately 25% of patients with CMD have symptoms that do not respond to intensive treatment with the currently available modalities. New treatments, including interventional therapies, are being studied. Their long-term benefit remains to be assessed and compared to that of the existing methods.PMID:37721132 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0205

Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy in Stroke Medicine.
CONCLUSION: In patients with CAA, arterial hypertension should be tightly controlled. On the other hand, caution should be exercised in prescribing oral anticoagulants or platelet aggregation inhibitors for patients with CAA, or statins for patients who have already sustained a lobar ICH. The Diagnosis and Treatment of Peripheral Arterial Vascular Disease.
CONCLUSION: The diagnostic assessment of PAOD is based on physical examination, measurement of the ankle-brachial index (ABI), and duplex ultrasonography. Acetylsalicylic acid and statins are indicated for patients with symptomatic PAOD. Endovascular procedures should be used if indicated. Randomized studies are needed to provide better evidence on many open questions in the treatment of PAOD. PMID: 27866570 [PubMed - in process]

Ezetimibe-Statin Combination Therapy.
CONCLUSION: In high-risk patients with an acute coronary syndrome, combination therapy with ezetimibe and a statin lowered the risk of cardiovascular events in comparison to statin monotherapy. The risk of dying or suffering an adverse drug effect was similar in the two treatment groups. PMID: 27412989 [PubMed - in process]

Treatment Options for Statin-Associated Muscle Symptoms.
CONCLUSION: SAMS are important adverse effects of statin treatment because they lessen drug adherence. Patients with SAMS should undergo a thorough diagnostic evaluation followed by appropriate counseling. In most cases, statins can be continued, with appropriate adjustments, even in the aftermath of SAMS. PMID: 26575138 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
