Clinical Practice Guideline: Chronic Cough
CONCLUSION: Chronic cough should be evaluated according to an established diagnostic algorithm in collaboration with specialists. Treatments such as inhaled corticosteroids should be tested exhaustively in accordance with the guidelines, and the possibility of multiple causes as well as the role of patient compliance should be kept in mind before a diagnosis of unexplained or intractable cough is assigned.PMID:34918623 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2021.0396

Recommendations on the In-Hospital Treatment of Patients With COVID-19
CONCLUSION: Noninvasive ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy, prone positioning, and invasive ventilation are important elements of the treatment of hypoxemic patients with COVID-19. A reduction of mortality has been demonstrated for the administration of monoclonal antibodies, JAK inhibitors, corticosteroids, tocilizumab, and therapeutic anticoagulation to specific groups of patients.PMID:34789365 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2021.0374

The Diagnosis and Treatment of Idiopathic Facial Paresis (Bell's Palsy).
CONCLUSION: Because 25-40% of cases of facial nerve palsy are not idiopathic, differential diagnosis is very important; key diagnostic methods include a clinical neurological examin- ation, otoscopy, and a lumbar puncture for cerebrospinal fluid examination. High-level evidence supports corticosteroid treatment for the idiopathic form of the disorder. PMID: 31709978 [PubMed - in process]

Invasive Fungal Infection.
CONCLUSION: Invasive fungal infections are often overlooked in routine hospital care. They should be incorporated into antimicro- bial stewardship programs as an essential component. There is also a pressing need for the development of new classes of antimycotic drug. PMID: 31159914 [PubMed - in process]

Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Childhood and Adolescence.
CONCLUSION: Children and adolescents with IBD or suspected IBD should be cared for by pediatric gastroenterologists in a center where such care is provided. Individualized treatment with multidisciplinary, family-oriented longterm care is particularly important. Drug trials in children and adolescents are needed so that the off-label use of drugs to patients in this age group can be reduced. PMID: 28597827 [PubMed - in process]

Treatment Options for Gout.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of gout is rising around the world. Patients with gout could benefit greatly from consistent implementation of the existing treatment guidelines and recommendations. In the future, controlled trials should be conducted to determine the best time to start treatment and the optimal target level for the serum uric acid concentration in terms of a risk/benefit analysis.
