Mortality risk after the first occurrence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in the general population: A nationwide cohort study
This study aimed to evaluate mortality risk after the first occurrence of OVCF in the general population using a nationwide dataset from the Korean National Health Insurance System. We identified 291,203 newly diagnosed patients with OVCF and 873,609 patients without OVCF at a ratio of 1:3 matched by sex and age between 2010 and 2012. Body mass index and stroke risk among patients with diabetes mellitus in Korea
ConclusionBMI was positively associated with the overall risk of stroke among DM patients in Korea. The risk of ischemic stroke was higher in obese patients compared to overweight or normal-weight patients. However, the risk of hemorrhagic stroke was higher in slimmer patients compared with overweight or obese patients.

Socioeconomic status and stroke severity: Understanding indirect effects via risk factors and stroke prevention using innovative statistical methods for mediation analysis
ConclusionAlmost one third of the association between low education and severe stroke was explained by risk factors, and clinical effort should be taken to reduce these risk factors to decrease stroke severity among those with low socioeconomic status.

Association between blood pressure categories and cardiovascular disease mortality in China
ConclusionsPrehypertension-high should be considered in CVD primary prevention given its high prevalence and increased CVD risk. All hypertension subtypes were independently associated with CVD and its subtypes mortality, though the strength of associations varied substantially.

The impact of glucosamine on age-related macular degeneration in patients: A nationwide, population-based cohort study
ConclusionsGlcN treatment can decrease the risk of developing dry type AMD. Further prospective controlled studies are needed to determine the effectiveness of GlcN treatment in patients with AMD and the associated mechanism.

Effectiveness and safety of rivaroxaban versus warfarin in Taiwanese patients with end-stage renal disease and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: A real-world nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsIn Taiwanese patients with end-stage renal disease and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, rivaroxaban may be associated with a similar risk of major bleeding but a lower risk of thromboembolism compared with warfarin. The potential benefit of 10 mg of rivaroxaban in this population requires further investigation.

Antipsychotic medications and stroke in schizophrenia: A case-crossover study
ConclusionsUse of second-generation antipsychotic drugs appeared to be associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke in the patients studied, possibly mediated by high affinity for histamine-1 receptor blockade. Further research regarding the underlying biological mechanism and drug safety is suggested.

Return to Work after a Stroke in Working Age Persons; A Six-Year Follow Up
ConclusionsRTW after a stroke is incomplete, however RTW is possible over a longer period of time than previously thought. More severe disability at discharge from hospital and sick leave prior to the stroke were shown to be risk factors for no-RTW. This knowledge can contribute to more individualized vocational rehabilitation.
